Hi I'm Kathryn

I am a mother, a wife, a singer-song writer and a school volunteer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in Kansas with nine siblings. I have always had a love for music and taught myself to play the piano. I realize music has been a calming and inspiring influence in my life. When I was 16 a woman who bred Morgan horses joined our congregation. I was thrilled when, after I had professed my love for horses multiple times, she offered me a job. I worked on the ranch for about 5 years, training those beautiful animals. I played the flute through my freshman year in college and was captain of the flag corp my senior year in high school. My family did not have much money and I was able to pay for much of my clothing and other expenses as well as put myself through college with the money I earned from working on the ranch and through various other jobs. I graduated from a local community college with an associates degree and transfered to Brigham Young University where I graduated with a B.S. degree in Psychology. While there I sang in a family restaurant on the weekends. It was while attending BYU that I met my forever boyfriend. We were married in the Salt Lake City temple in a beautiful ceremony where we covenanted to live our lives in such a way that we can be together forever. We were not able to have childen right away but after 7 years of marriage and with the help of many doctors we had our first baby boy. We have since been blessed with two more boys and thank our Heavenly Father every day for the blessing of having a family.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother joined the church after the missionaries knocked on her door and taught her the gospel of Jesus Christ. I was an infant at that time but was baptized when I was 8 years old. I am a member now because I have received a personal confirmation that the teachings, concepts, ordinances and principles taught in this church are true. I believe that Jesus Christ organized his church when he lived on the earth with prophets and apostles. For a time, it was taken off the earth because of wickedness. I know that the church of Jesus Christ was restored to the earth through a young boy named Joseph Smith who went to a quiet grove of trees to pray and find out which church he should join. He was the first prophet in these latter days and I believe that God continues to lead his children through prophets today just as he did in ancient times. I know that today he leads through a prophet named Thomas S. Monson. I am a member because I have read the Bible and I have read the Book of Mormon and know that it is true scripture, preserved by God and brought forth to testify of Jesus Christ. I am a member because I know that it is through the ordinances in this church performed by those having the proper authority that I can return to live with my Heavenly Father again. Because I know that I am literally a daughter of God, that he knows me, that he loves me and that he answers my prayers. He has blessed me beyond measure. I have received spiritual confirmation as I have prayed and studied that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is his church on this earth. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

My faith is my life! I strive everyday to understand what Heavenly Father would have me do and to do it. I pray for his spirit to be with me and with my family members so that we can be guided and protected by him. I study the life of Jesus Christ and try to be more like him in everything I do. I am drawn to others who follow him, too. I read the scriptures and teach my children from them. I honor the covenants I have made with my husband. We try to have a date night every week to keep our friendship strong and our committment even stronger. We pray for our children and try hard to help them and to show them in everything that we do that they are loved. I am active in my church and am currently serving the youth in our area by helping to plan activities and meetings so that they can be with others that think and feel the same way they do. Our youth program embraces youth ages 12 through 18 and there are hundreds of young men and young women who attend our events. I know the youth are special to Heavenly Father and I love to serve him by serving them.
