Hi I'm Nathan

I grew up in American Fork, Utah. I am a student at Brigham Young University. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently am studying Acturarial Science at BYU. I hope to become an Actuary someday and maybe even possibly work for ESPN, that is my dream job! I enjoy mountain biking, playing basketball, ping pong, golf, ultimate frisbee, and tennis. I really enjoy math and chess as well. I've lived in several states including Arkansas, Missouri, Colorado, California, and Utah. I enjoy almost all kinds of music, but my favorites are the mormon tabernacle choir and country music. I've worked several jobs throughout high school and college, my favorite being a referee and scorekeeper for various sports such as basketball, soccer, football, and softball. When I'm not doing homework you can count on me either biking or playing some sort of sport.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the gospel because both my parents were members already. They always made sure I attended church every week and attended my meetings every week. I fed off of their testimonies for a little bit until I was about 8, and I read the book of mormon for the first time. It was a wonderful book, I didn't understand it all at the time and I still don't, but as I continue to read it and have read it multiple times now, I understand more and more of it each time. When I finished it at the age of 13, I knelt down in sincere prayer to ask Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father if the book of Mormon was true. Instantly at that moment, I felt a burning in my heart and I knew it was the Holy Spirit manifesting to me that it was true and that it is the most true book of any on Earth. I also know that Joseph Smith is a true prophet and that he did see God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, and that he translated the plates into the Book of Mormon by the power of God. I know that this is the only true church on the Earth and that it is Christ's church. I know that Thomas S. Monson is our prophet today and that he was called of God. I know that he gives direction and revelation to this church and its members through divine revelation from God. I know that Christ lives and atoned for our sins and that there is no other way to return to Him unless we repent of our sins and try to become like Christ. I hope that everyone gets a chance to read this marvelous book called the Book of Mormon and feel of this joy that I feel every time I read it.

How I live my faith

At the age of 18 I left for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to serve a 2 year mission, where I taught the gospel to anyone who would lend a listening ear. I learned new things everyday myself from the amazing people there, whom i met. I serve actively now in my local ward as a hometeaching supervisor, making sure everyone in the ward is visited and cared for. Some may say its a once a month thing, but its definitely not. People want to be happy and loved and cared for the whole month, not just once a month. I meet many new people every day and I learn to love them. On top of that, I still struggle with everyday issues and problems in school or at work or with family, and I just try to apply the principles that Jesus Christ taught into my life, to make me a better person, and I trust in Him to help me through these trials.

What do Mormons believe about the Holy Ghost? Who is the Holy Ghost?

Nathan
The Holy Ghost is a member of the Godhead, along with our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. The Holy Ghost does not have a body of flesh and bones like Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, but is a personage of Spirit. The Holy Ghost's main mission is to testify of the Father and His Son, and reveal the truth of all things unto us. Everyone can feel the influence of the Holy Ghost, but only those members of the church who have been baptized can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, which gives us the right to constant companionship with the Holy ghost. He comforts us, assures us, and teaches us. Through the Holy Ghost is how we can come to the knowledge that this is the true church that the Father and His Son restored on this Earth through their servant Joseph Smith. Show more Show less
