Hi I'm Ryan

I grew up in Philadelphia. My mom and dad are the parents of 12 children. I'm an artist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an artist and a university professor. I am married to a lovely woman and have three wonderful children. I have exhibited my art in museums and galleries across the United States, the United Kingdom and Continental Europe. I also do a lot of writing. I have published short stories, poems, and criticism in a variety of publications and am currently involved in a number of children's book projects that I will also be illustrating. I am crazy about Henry James, Charles Dickens, and Patrick O'Brian as authors. I love movies, and classical music. I love holidays with my family. I love good food and good company. My wife makes a dessert called Chocolate Pavlova, and I think it is probably the best darn thing on the planet.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a devout Mormon family and my parents showed me a wonderful example of Christian living. They were perfectly honest and upright, they were compassionate, they were generous with their time and their means. They lived sermons of unselfish service and devotion that really impacted me in a positive way. Because of their example and teachings, I was able to muster the faith one day to ask for myself if this church was for me. I felt then, as I have in countless ways in the years since, that God's hand is in this work. I have felt the Spirit warm my heart again and again as I have read the scriptures, attended church, served as a missionary, worshipped in the temple and as I have sought for guidance in the difficulties we all encounter in life. This church is THE true church of Jesus Christ, and His hand guides it through his servants the prophets, by the gifts of the spirit, by revelation and by power. I know it is true because I have felt the witness of the Holy Ghost many times affirm to me its truth. I am grateful for this knowledge because it is a source of peace in troubled times.

How I live my faith

There are a number of ways in which I seek to live my faith day by day. I participate in church every Sunday, I support the members there in any way I can. One of my current responsibilities at church is to assist the full-time missionaries in their efforts to teach people in our area. I am also responsible for visiting a number of families in our congregation every month, and sharing with them a spiritual message. More than anything this is something that we do to look out for each other. I am also involved in living my faith in my own home. We have daily scripture study as a family, and prayers both night and day. We also have a family night every week with treats, songs, activities and a spiritual lesson. I also engage in a regime of private prayer and scripture study in an effort to become more familiar with the teachings of the Lord and to better implement them in my daily life. I seek to be a man of integrity in all that I do. I strive to be an exemplary employee, colleague, mentor and friend, and I know that my devotion to the teachings found within the scriptures helps me to be a better man in every aspect of my life.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon contains some of the prophetic writings of the inhabitants of the ancient Americas. Some of the records kept by these prophets were compiled by a man named Mormon into the document now known as "The Book of Mormon". The importance of the Book of Mormon cannot be overstated in its ability to clarify doctrinal issues that have divided the Christian world for centuries. The truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ enjoy a unique clarity and simplicity in the pages of the Book of Mormon. Show more Show less
