Hi I'm Joseph

Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is very important to me. I'm from Utah and love life.

About Me

I am the father of seven children who are wonderful people. My parents were strong, yet very quiet and unassuming people who taught me the important things of life, including the value of service, the joy of music and to love the Lord. I have been a computer programmer and worked for the University of Utah until my recent retirement. Music is one way I can serve the Lord. I have sung in choirs and played in orchestras. I also have a love of my ancestors and have done extensive research into the details and lives of those who have gone before. I am deeply grateful that my ancestors heard the message of the restored Gospel of Jesus Christ, accepted it through baptism and set the pattern for the lives of those who followed. I also have had the great opportunity of being a scout and youth leader, mainly in the Boy Scouts of America. Overall, I love the Lord and dedicate my life to His service and in serving His children here on earth.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of my testimony of the truthfulness of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its teachings. They are from God. Jesus Christ is our head. There are many times in my life that I feel the peace in my heart that comes only from my Savior. He answers my prayers and leads me to do good to others. I know that our prophets, from Joseph Smith to our currently serving prophet, Thomas Monson are truly prophets of God. The Book of Mormon is a inspired and true volume of scriptures and I have had numerous experiences that have testified this to me. I am naturally a shy and hesitant person who would rather keep to myself and not get involved. Because of the Gospel, I put myself forward and find the greatest joy in serving others. This brings peace to my heart and strength to my soul so that I can continue to serve. I know that in order to keep this joy and peace in my soul, I must keep reaching beyond myself and serving others, trusting in my Savior to support me and quiet my fears.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving others. Much of this is part of fulfilling responsibilities in my church callings. These include my work as a Boy Scout leader, a choir director, an organist, a Sunday School Teacher and in several leadership positions, such as a Bishop and a Stake HIgh Counselor. My current position is Ward Mission Leader where I assist the missionaries and members of the ward in teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people in my neighborhood. I enjoy working with the missionaries, currently two sister missionaries. Coming soon, I will be serving full-time as a missionary for the church in Europe and look forward to this wonderful opportunity.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Mormons love the Bible. The Book of Mormon honors the bible and the prophets of the Book of Mormon loved the bible scriptures that they had with them as they existed in 600 BC. The, as Christ visited the people of the Book of Mormon, he gave them many more teachings that are in other parts of the Bible. The prophets there taught the same things that biblical prophets taught. The Gospel and the Bible are inseparable as are the Book of Mormon is to the teachings of Jesus Christ. Excluding either the Bible or the Book of Mormon means limiting the knowledge we can have of the love God has for all his children to an incomplete understanding. That is why Mormons believe in the Bible. Show more Show less
