Hi I'm Zach

I served as a missionary in England. I'm a Graduate Student. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I grew up as a member of the LDS Church. I enjoy listening to music and playing the piano. I went to the Southern part of England to serve a mission. When I returned home I completed my undergraduate degree in History. Afterwards I worked doing historical research and now I am continuing my education in Graduate School. I love learning, I also enjoy reading, watching movies, and hanging out with friends.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up going to church and learning about the restored gospel that alone would not have motivated me to continue to follow the teachings as I went through my life or to go on a mission if I had not come to know that it was true for myself. My interest in history led me to study many aspects of the church in the early years of its restoration. Through study and prayer Heavenly Father told me that he had chosen Joseph Smith as a Prophet to restore Christ's Church. In answer to additional prayers it was also confirmed to me that we have a living Prophet and Apostles on the earth today.

How I live my faith

I have lived my faith by serving in a number of ways in church such as teaching Sunday School and assisting the bishop. However, the biggest impact has been my life at home. Growing up we would learn gospel principles in weekly Family Home Evening and through the example of my parents. I continue to learn through personal study of the scriptures and prayer.

What is the First Vision?

The First Vision is the name we use to refer to the vision Joseph Smith had as a young, teenage boy in response to a simple prayer. In that vision our Heavenly Father and his Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to him and told him that Christ's Church was not then upon the earth. Although he was not given the Book of Mormon or instructed to organize the church for a number of years this vision was an important step in Joseph's instruction to re-establish our Saviour's work on the earth. Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

There are really two answers to this question. From a purely historical perspective the Church was founded by Joseph Smith. His name was listed on the copyright of the Book of Mormon, he signed the paperwork that legally incorporated the church, and he was sustained by the members as the Church's president. From a spiritual point of view there is a different answer. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded by Christ himself. Joseph Smith was just the instrument Jesus used to carry out his will. Because of what he did we respect Joseph and honor him as a Prophet of God. We believe others have lead the church on the earth since his death. The founder and head of the church, however, has never changed. It is led by Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
