Hi I'm Whitney Wood

I am Miss Idaho 2012. I love to snowboard. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As a longtime resident of Idaho and its wintry weather, I love to snowboard. I am the second of five children, sandwiched between two brothers, with two younger sisters. I have two dogs, and love to stay fit by cooking healthy, lifting weights, and doing yoga. I have enjoyed playing the piano for almost 12 years, and teaching for three. I am a 2011 Coca-Cola Scholar, and attended one year of college. I am now serving as Miss Idaho, preparing to compete at Miss America in January 2013. After my year as Miss Idaho, I will return to school to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations and a Master's in Marketing.

Why I am a Mormon

In a world of uncertainty, the gospel is my constant, unchanging foundation. I find peace in knowing that Heavenly Father has a plan for my life. He hears and understands my prayers. He wants me to fulfill my potential and be successful. Ultimately, He loves me for who I am. I know that He is a merciful God, and through the repentance process, He will forgive me of my sins and I can eventually be perfected in Him. When I put my trust in the Lord, He leads and guides me to make wise decisions, and inspires me to know how to bless the lives of others as He would have me do. I am so grateful that He blessed me with a loving family to be my team of supporters in this earthly test. I know that I can be with my family for all eternity if we are sealed in the temple and continue to live righteously. I am a daughter of God, who loves me, and I love Him.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to serve everyone around me - that is when I am happiest. I serve by simple acts: sharing my music with others, making time to visit neighbors, writing notes of appreciation and encouragement, and making an effort to smile at every person I see. At church I have served as a choir accompanist, organist, young women's music coordinator, and girls camp leader. As Miss Idaho, I am serving my state by collecting donations for women's shelters, raising money for children's hospitals, and speaking in schools to encourage self-esteem, goal setting, and higher education. I also live my faith by honoring the body that God provided me. I abstain from harmful drugs, alcohol, and smoking. I make an effort to eat healthy, exercise, and dress modestly to show respect for myself and others. I live my faith through praying, studying scripture, giving tithes, attending church services, listening to uplifting music, and keeping record in my journal of the many blessings that God has so generously given me.
