Hi I'm Michael

I'm a swimmer. I love acapella music. I've worked with children with special needs. I live in Romania. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been working with children and adults with special needs. My little sister was born with Down Syndrome and I volunteered with the UDSF for four years before moving to Idaho. I then became a lifeguard and eventually graduated high school. It was then that I returned to working with children as a Developmental Therapist. I was captain of my high school swim team and swam for 12 years. I've been sky diving and loved every second of it. Something interesting, when I was 11 or 12 we went to Down Syndrom day at Lagoon where I was told by a little girl that I was her "prince charming" and that I would take her to here first prom. Well, seven years went by and then I contacted her mom (they lived in Wyoming at the time) and told her I was going to ask her daughter to prom. It took ten hours of driving and quite a bit of planning, but it was worth every second. She was so excited to go to prom, to be in a beautiful dress and to be a princess for the night. What a powerful spiritual moment that was for me. For just a second, I saw her as her Heavenly Father sees her. Now I have the opportunity to serve the people of Romania for a 2 year service mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? Because it has brought me the greatest happiness that I have ever felt. It took me a long time to figure out that happiness doesnt come from how popular you are or how much money you have. It comes from following the example of Jesus Christ. In his life he has shown us exactly how we can be truly happy. As I have experimented on his teachings I have come to find that although some things are more difficult to do, in the end it always brings me happiness. Its the kind of happiness that lingers, one that only leaves if I decide to make it leave. I am a Mormon because the values that I am learning daily teach me to be a better son, a better brother and a better friend.

How I live my faith

I am now serving an LDS volunteer two year mission in Romania/Moldova, and for your info Moldova is a small country to the north-east of Romania. I have decided to serve these people for a simple reason. My Heavenly Father has served me, and has shown me all that I need to do to be happy. Now I hope to show others the love that our Father has for them. When I opened up my mission call, I had the feeling that this is exactly what I need to do, this is exactly where I need to go. It was the best feeling I have ever had.

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

This one is actually really easy. None of the leaders in our church receive money. Each of us who have a role in the church are volunteers. All money that comes from tithing goes to building churches, temples and to purchase other church materials. Your next question is probably "Why do you do all that work for no money?" Well its because I personally owe my life to my Savior. He took all of our sins and went through every pain, worry or fear that we have ever had, have now, or will have. We we would never be able to repay that debt, but Christ doesn't ask us to do that. He only ask us to follow him, keep his commandments and rely on him. If we are asked to be a bishop, or work with children, or go on a two year mission to follow him, it seems very simple to me. For what Christ did for me, I can do these things for him.
