Hi I'm Spencer.

I love watching sports and listening to music. I'm also kind of a geek. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As the youngest of 5 children, growing up was pretty fun. I've always had someone to play with and talk to. And even though my mother died when I was 16, my family has always been very close and loving. I'm kind of a big nerd. I love going to movies and talking about the biggest movies coming out. I absolutely love music. Not only is it fun to listen to, but I like to get into the theory behind it and how it is composed. When I listen to music, I don't just sit and listen to it for fun, I try to find the meaning behind the lyrics and see how cool the harmonies and time signatures are. Yeah. I'm a nerd. I'm also a big sports fan and love to watch almost every sport (Sorry, soccer fans). I follow every sport closely and love to talk about big moves that teams make and who everyone loses to. There's just something about the camaraderie between the players and the rivalries between teams that gets a man's adrenaline pumping. I love sports. Fan of the BYU Cougars, Utah Jazz, LA Angels, and I may be a closet San Francisco 49ers fan.

Why I am a Mormon

I've never really thought about why I am a Mormon. I suppose being born into the church and growing up in the church was just normal for me. I didn't find it to be weird, as I had many of my peers and closest friends in the church. But it's not the social aspect of the church that keeps me going back every Sunday. It's the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and a testimony of the Book of Mormon and all my church leaders that keeps my faith burning strong inside of me. When I was little, I would always go to church with my parents and learn everything, but I never really understood why I was doing it or knew of the significance about what I was learning. But ever since I saw my brother leave on his mission, I knew I wanted to serve and wanted to learn more about everything the church teaches. Now when I go to church, I try to get every bit of information I can, and want to learn about everything. I've never had a stronger testimony than I have while preparing to leave on a mission. Preparing to leave your home for two years to teach people about the Gospel is an intimidating and scary thing. But it's helped me learn more about myself, and about who Jesus Christ was and the message that wants to bring to us. I'm excited to go and serve the Lord with all my heart, might, mind, and strength, to become closer to my Heavenly Father. Alma 37:36 "Yea, and cry unto God for all they support; yea, let all they doings be unto the Lord, and whithersoever thou goest let it be in the Lord; yea, let all they thoughts be directed unto the Lord; yea, let the affections of thy heart be placed upon the Lord forever."

How I live my faith

I'm the youngest of 5 children, with 3 older sisters and an older brother. I will be the second to serve a mission in my family, following my brother. While my brother stayed in the states to serve in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I am currently serving in the Chile Santiago North Mission! It is a wonderful opportunity for me and I am very excited to learn more about the Gospel and help bring others closer to Jesus Christ and to teach them about all the wonderful messages from the Book of Mormon. I grew up in the church and have always enjoyed going and learning about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. My mother died when I was 16 due to Hodgkin's lymphoma, and it's moments like that that help bring you closer to Christ and realize the wonderful message that he gives to us. Most kids that age might have gone off the deep end. But I know that my mother is in a much better place than she was, and it helped me to be at peace knowing that she wasn't suffering anymore. I loved her more than anything in the world. I think about her every day, know that she is with me, and can't wait to see her again.

Are Mormons Christians?

As with any Christian church, the doctrine of our church focuses around Jesus Christ. His name is in the full name of the church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And the keystone of our religion is The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. As President Gordon B. Hinckley said, we accept Jesus Christ as our Savior and our leader. He, along with our Heavenly Father, provided a way for us to become closer to him and to come to live with him again. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. We do all things on Jesus Christ. He is our brother, and our Savior, and we love him dearly. Some of my favorite scriptures comes from the Book of Mormon, in the book of 3rd Nephi, chapter 9, verses 15-17. These scriptures explain what Christ has come here to do, how much he loves us, and helps tell us about the wonderful message of the Gospel 3 Nephi 9:15-17 "15 Behold, I am Jesus Christ the Son of God. I created the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are. I was with the Father from the beginning. I am in the Father, and the Father in me; and in me hath the Father glorified his name. 16 I came unto my own, and my own received me not. And the scriptures concerning my coming are fulfilled. 17 And as many as have received me, to them have I given to become the sons of God; and even so will I to as many as shall believe on my name, for behold, by me redemption cometh, and in me is the law of Moses fulfilled."
