Hi I'm Ian

I am a college student. I race mountain bikes. I helped start high school mountain bike racing in Utah. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student studying mechanical engineering. I began with research in the field of micro air vehicles, both design and piloting, and spent much time building and flying radio control airplanes and helicopters. I love the outdoors and often bike, hike, camp, rock climb, run and do nature photography. I love all things bicycle - specially mountain bikes. I design, build, buy, and sell bikes, as well as help teach mountain biking at my university, and I am an assistant coach to three local high school mountain bike racing teams. I often lead mountain bike rides all over the state. Before I got into biking I did a lot of running, racing in track in high school, and doing many 5Ks, 10Ks, a half and a full marathon, as well as large team long-distance relays. I am also studying geology and ballroom dance. Rocks have always been extremely interesting to me, leading to the hobbies of gemstone cutting and jewelry making. Dance was something I feared until I really gave it a try, and now I have competed in ballroom dance for many years, but I enjoy social ballroom dancing the most.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this church is God's true church. This is His Gospel. I have had a personal witness that He leads and guides this church through His chosen prophet, and this witness is reaffirmed every day through the little miracles and wonders that remind me that He is there and He cares about me. He really is in the little things in my life. I spent two years teaching the people of Germany about this church, and I have seen this Gospel change people's lives and bring indescribable happiness to many who once had felt totally hopeless. Reading in the Book of Mormon was the missing link in my life that helped me and these other people come closest to Christ.

How I live my faith

I am very active in this church. I am a member of my ward's social committee and help plan parties and events. I feel it is important to help people make lasting friendships and really get to know each other and learn from each other so I plan large hiking, biking, or dancing trips for anyone who will come. I feel that an appreciation for nature's wonders and beauty is an important part of loving God and remembering all that He has done for us so that we can be happy in life. I also seek opportunities to serve people around me, whether friends or random people on the street, because that is what Christ would have done.
