Hi I'm Clyde Cook

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am Clyde. I am a Mormon. I was raised on a small Idaho farm. I still farm, growing potatoes and wheat but our most important crop was our six sons and three daughters. It has been fun to work with them and see how learning to work has benefited them. They are all married and scattered across America now so we enjoy traveling to visit them and our thirty grandchildren. I enjoy the off season so we can enjoy our family and the beauties around us.

Why I am a Mormon

As I have struggled to understand what life is all about and my purpose in God's plan, I found that the answers in the faith of my pioneer Mormon ancestors. My answers came through my own struggles, study, prayers and efforts to apply the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. I love the Bible for its' historical value, but more importantly for its introduction of God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, to me. I especially love learning of the life and ministry of Jesus Christ as recorded in the New Testament. I have profound appreciation and respect for those who, at great cost and suffering, preserved the scriptures for us through the ages. It troubles me that the many Christian religions of today understand the doctrines Jesus taught so differently. I have found that studying the Book of Mormon and the words of living prophets alongside the Bible brings clarity. The truths learned from each of these sources are in complete harmony with each other. The study of them together brings me understanding, peace, joy and confidence that a loving Father in Heaven knows me personally and loves me because He is my Father. It's like He is pulling for me, hoping that my obedience to His will and commandments will enable Him to give me the blessings He already wants me to have. This understanding of God has served me well. I am able to begin each day with confidence and purpose. It has taken the sting out of death as I have lost loved ones. I know that eternal happiness with my wife and children is within our reach if we put our trust in Him and endure faithfully to the end. It is made possible through the atonement of Jesus Christ. I am not worthy of such great blessings on my own merit. He has promised to be my advocate with the Father on judgment day if I serve Him and serve others. He has worked miracles in my life and in the lives of my family. My desire is for everyone to find and enjoy the peace Jesus Christ has given me.

How I live my faith

The key to living my faith is to approach each day with a desire to do what God would have me do. I have found that when I am faced with trials and challenges, that a few moments pondering the question, "What would Jesus do in this situation?" is helpful. It has led to opportunities in our small community and church. Helping with scouting and youth programs sponsored by our church has been fun and rewarding. Recently my service has been with adults and families. It is rewarding to be in their homes, encouraging them and lifting them. My wife and I will be spending the next six months on a mission in the Northeast. We will be photographing old records that need preservation so they will be available for future generations as they seek to trace their roots.
