Hi I'm Josh

I love Mexican food. I love sports. And I love being a Mormon.

About Me

I'm at college studying computer science. My oldest brother inspired me to enter this field when he started making computer games in high school. I have made some cheesy video games of my own, and I enjoy programming. I love playing and watching sports. I play a little bit of everything: ultimate frisbee, volleyball, basketball, tennis, a little bit of racquetball. I grew up in a border town and lived in Mexico for two years, so I love Mexican food and music and speaking Spanish with people. I play the piano and I'm learning to play the ukulele. I love food and eat a ton of it. I've never been in an eating contest, but I think I would dominate.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are Mormon, and I was raised in the church, but that is not the reason why I've chosen to be a Mormon and follow Christ. I know the gospel of Jesus Christ is true. When I was young, my parents encouraged me to read the Book of Mormon and pray to know if it was true. I did so regularly, and I received an answer from God through the Holy Ghost. I didn't have a vision or dream, but at times I have felt a peace so deep and a burning in my heart so strong that I can't deny the veracity of this gospel. As I have lived the principles of the gospel, I have become happier and I have been blessed abundantly.

How I live my faith

One program in the church that I love is called family home evening. Every Monday, we gather together as a family, have a lesson about the gospel, and do some sort of activity. Since I am far from my family, as well as most the students at my college, they divide us into "families" of students, and I am a family home evening group leader, which means I am in charge of this activity every Monday. It is such an awesome responsibility, because during family home evening, we have the chance to get to know each other better, forget about the stress of school and work for a while, have fun, and be spiritually uplifted. We've done some really fun things, like water balloon fights, pumpkin carving for Halloween, and cupcake decorating. The church also encourages us to serve other people. I've been volunteering at a middle school in the area, tutoring kids in Spanish. Serving others is one of my favorite things to do because it makes me happier, and life is just better when I do it.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

The purpose of the missionaries is to bring people unto Christ. They are here to help you know more about God's plan for all of us and to help you change your life in a way that will give you more happiness and freedom. They aren't here to try to convince you or debate with you. They are here to help you receive answers to your prayers and feel the Spirit of God in your life. Show more Show less

What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon is another book of scripture that God has given to us. It contains the same gospel and the same doctrines as the Bible, and it helps us to understand our purpose in life and strengthens our determination to follow Christ. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

There are so many good people in the world that are trying to the best of their abilities to live a good and honorable life. The Bible helps people achieve this, but that alone will not be sufficient for us to reach our full potential as children of God and return to his presence. There are so many conflicting views about religion, even within Christianity. There's only one way to God's presence, and that's why He has restored his Church. I know that this is true. The authority of God is on earth once more so that we can make covenants and ordinances with God, like baptism, which will draw us closer to him. Show more Show less
