Hi I'm Thomas Hayes Long

I'm a college student. I am a returned missionary, and I'm a Mormon

About Me

My name is Thomas, and I was born and raised in North Carolina. I served a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from March 27, 2013 to April 2, 2015 in the Baltic Mission. I am a full-time student at BYU-Idaho, and I am a human biology major. I aspire to become an optometrist. I love families and being outdoors. I love school and learning. I love books and music. More than anything though, I love my Savior Jesus Christ and our Father in Heaven.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this is the true church on the earth today. I know that, and no one can convince me to deny it. Sometimes faith is all we have, but it is definitely enough to give us a knowledge of what is true and what is not. All of the pieces just click together in this church. It makes complete and total sense when you study the doctrines and principles taught in this wonderful religion. I say religion, but I feel as if it is much more than that. It is life, it is joy, and it is what is true and right. There are more than just words to this church, there is feeling and true conversion to Jesus Christ. I love this church so much because of the promises of joy that it brings. And I've seen those promises of joy come to pass in my own life. There is happiness, and then there is joy. True joy! This joy is everlasting and eternal, and you can find it in this church. The center of our religion is Jesus Christ and his teachings. I love to learn of Him and all of the things that He did so that you and I could be forgiven of our sins and obtain that everlasting joy which we all desire. There are so many reasons why I am of the Mormon faith, and this is just one. The true and guiltless joy that accompanies this church is so immense and powerful that I cannot help but be drawn to the gospel of Jesus Christ. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I love my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ with all my heart. There are many ways one can live their faith. Personally, I started when I was 8 years old and decided to follow Christ's example and be baptized. Every day since then, I try to do my best to do what My Father in Heaven would want me to do. He knows us personally, and loves us all no matter what. He also knows what is best for us, therefore, I put my faith and trust in Him and follow his counseling and commandments. Every Sunday I go to church to partake of the Sacrament and reaffirm the promises I made to my Father when I was baptized. Morning and night prayers and scripture study help feed my faith in Christ. I'll go where He needs me to go, and I'll be who he needs me to be. More than two years ago, He asked of me to be a missionary. So I willingly went, and it was the best decision of my entire life. Now I try hard to balance time between my school work (there is a lot for college students) and my spiritual work, though I do believe they both go hand in hand.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Thomas Hayes Long
Without The Holy Bible, we would not know of the life and teachings of our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Bible and The Book of Mormon work together perfectly to bring the world more knowledge of Jesus Christ and Heavenly Father. We love The Holy Bible, for it testifies of Jesus Christ and His prophets before His life. Show more Show less
