Hi I'm Kim

I grew up in the USA in the Midwest, East and West. I am a mother, grandmother, and a teacher. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I just retired from teaching elementary school and am now teaching an early morning religion class on the New Testament to high school students. I love teaching and learning! I am the mother of six children and the grandmother of 14. Spending time with my family is my greatest joy. My husband passed away after 40 years of marriage and I am learning many new things about myself and the world around me. I love to read, especially children's literature and historical fiction. I am embarking on a new phase of learning how to get my body into good shape and how to eat a healthy diet to maintain good health. I am also learning about photography and want to learn to take portraits, especially of children.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon first because my mother raised me in this church and because she lived the way she taught me to live-following the Savior. My mother's ancestors were early church pioneers who gave up much for what they believed and that legacy of faith and sacrifice has passed down to me. My mother married a man not of our faith, but he allowed her to raise her five children in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My faith began there, but has grown over many years as I watched my father join the church after 19 years of marriage because he came to believe that it was true. I have grown in my testimony of the truthfulness of this church through years of service, study, answered prayers and the Holy Ghost testifying to my heart that it is true over and over again. I am a Mormon because the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-saints is Christ's Church restored to the earth with the same organization as in ancient times with Apostles, Prophets and the Priesthood of God. I am a Mormon because we have a Prophet who leads us and teaches us what the Lord wants us to know today to help us be like our Savior. I am a Mormon because we have Temples where families can be sealed together for all eternity through the same power that Christ gave to the Apostle Peter when he was on the earth. I am a Mormon because I have a firm testimony of the truthfulness of these things and living this way makes me very happy.

How I live my faith

I loved teaching for ten years in the public schools. I enjoyed being a part of the school community, participating in service projects, and assisting and loving my students and their parents. I also loved sharing my love of our country in my social studies classes and my feeling that a higher power than man formed this country and allows us to live in freedom. I love to study the scriptures, which makes my church job as an instructor of high school students who are studying the New Testament especially rewarding. This class is taught daily at 6 am before regular classes begin. I am amazed at the dedication of these youth who want to learn more about their Savior and how to become like Him. I learn so much from them. Recently, I participated in a week of camp for our young women, ages 12-18. I helped to cook for 100 people and learned that this is a lot of hard work and could only be accomplished through teamwork. I worked with two wonderful women and it was a challenge to fix enough food that the young women liked and to do it on a budget. I also have the opportunity to visit and care about two women from our congregation, to make sure that they are okay, and to bring them a spiritual message. I am grateful for the friendship I have with these two women and the chance to share in their lives.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Kim
I have the great privilege to work in one of our Temples each week for a few hours. As I walk through those doors, the cares of the world disappear for it is the House of the Lord and His work is done inside and His Spirit brings peace to all who enter there. I am able to serve others in the Temple as they receive sacred ordinances and make covenants or promises to the Lord to follow Him and obey his commandments. It is joyful work to see families joined together for eternity. Show more Show less
