Hi I'm Mikela

I'm a missionary. I'm a musician. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am nineteen years old and I am currently serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Portugal Lisbon mission. I absolutely love having an opportunity to serve my Heavenly Father and His precious children and share the joyful truths of the gospel with them. Making the decision to serve a mission was hard, but I know it's the right thing for my life and I am so grateful to have this chance to share the gospel that I love and believe with all of my heart. I am the fourth of ten children - nine girls and one boy. I love my family so much, and I am so grateful for the way the gospel increases that love between us and allows us to be together forever. My siblings are my best friends, and I know I wouldn't have those close friendships without the gospel in our home. I believe that God blesses us with unique talents and passions to use for good, and mine is music. I play the piano and the harp and I love to sing. I think that music is a powerful tool for good, and I know it has been in my life. I was accepted into the Brigham Young University school of music a year ago, emphasizing in harp performance. I know that being in the school of music is a miraculous gift and tender mercy from Heavenly Father, and I know He loves me and wants me to have joy in my life. I have a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and of His love for every single one of us. The gospel has blessed me in countless ways, and I love my life!

Why I am a Mormon

I have come to know for myself that this is the one true and fulfilled gospel on the face of the earth. More than that, it is the most joyful church on the face of the planet, and the truths taught here magnify my joy in every area of my life. After immersing myself in the gospel and living the standards fully and sincerely, I have become happier than I ever could be, and I know that joy comes directly from this gospel, the gospel of Jesus Christ. That's part of the reason that I know the Church is true and I know it is good, because it has brought only goodness, truth, and happiness into my life, and unity and joy within my family and my home. The Church has become something that I would not ever give up for the world, and I have been so changed and become so dependent upon this gospel that it has become a vital part of me - I could not live without it, and more importantly I would never, ever want to.

How I live my faith

The difference between a saint and a sinner is sincere effort. We all make mistakes and fall short - I certainly do on a daily basis. But I have a heartfelt desire to keep the commandments and follow my Savior, Jesus Christ. I do my best to share the truths I know, lift up the weak and the weary, serve the people around me with love, and use my gifts and talents for good. I also do my best to take advantage of the fullness of Christ's gospel which has been given to me by treasuring and studying the holy scriptures, praying daily with gratitude for the Lord's aid, and attending Church meetings to partake of the sacrament. I know I will not be perfect in this life, but I have a firm testimony that as I try to follow my Savior's example and ask for His help in doing so, He will help me reach people in need that I could not reach on my own and become the disciple that I could not be on my own.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

Mikela
Family is the foundation of society. One of our hymns say, "There is beauty all around when there's love at home." We believe that once we are sealed together in the temple, we can be together forever. We cherish our family ties and do all that we can to love, serve, and uplift one another. Our families are our strengths, our foundations, and our closest friends. The family is the best place to teach children right from wrong, strengthen individuals against evil, and progress along the path that leads home to our Heavenly Father. Show more Show less
