Hi I'm Nicolas Bons

I'm an engineer, a musician, and a triathlete. I love my wife and family. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 24 years old. I'm from Ohio, I've lived in Massachusetts and Utah, and I currently call Michigan home. I was born the second of six children and married a pretty little California girl a little over a year ago. We love the great outdoors and enjoy skiing, hiking, camping, and boating. I enjoy competing in triathlons and playing most sports. When I'm not outside doing something active, you might find me playing the piano or the guitar. I am currently in graduate school studying aeronautical engineering. For me, graduate school is a way to explore God's creations and their natural laws in greater depth. I believe that part of the purpose of life is continual learning and that greater knowledge brings us closer to God. I spent two years on a church mission in Parana, Brazil. I learned to speak Portuguese and to love Brazilians, but I also cemented my faith in God and in the restoration of the gospel and Church of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I have studied the doctrine that the prophets have taught anciently and in our day. I feel peace when I consider all that I have learned. God has confirmed to me that he has restored His church on the Earth and revealed His plan through modern prophets. I know that we must follow God's plan in order to return to Him after this life is over.

How I live my faith

It wasn't until my mission to Brazil that I really started to see the positive effect that gospel of Jesus Christ can have on people's lives. Up until that point I knew that I had different beliefs and standards than other people, but I hadn't seen firsthand how someone's life can change when certain principles are put in place. God's plan is universal and it applies to all of his children. There are natural laws upon which all blessings (happiness, self-confidence, success, etc) are predicated. God gave us the power to choose how we will live our lives. He also has revealed the plan (with all the instructions about which choices to make) through Jesus Christ and the prophets. The purpose of this life is to test whether we will follow the correct principles to be able to return to God and be with our families forever. We are all somewhere along the path of getting back to our Father in Heaven. It is up to each of us to do the best we can with the knowledge we have been given. I strive diligently to keep the commandments and I try to be more like Jesus. To me that means being kind to people, having a positive outlook on life, and serving my fellow men. Part of that service is helping to spread the truths of the gospel with those who haven't heard as much as I've been fortunate enough to hear. God loves all of his children and he will ensure that they all have a fair chance to hear and accept the truths of the gospel. He asks us to help Him in that work by sharing our knowledge and by helping other people along the path. I am not perfect in obedience nor in my devotion to serving God. When I fall short or make mistakes, I seek forgiveness and strength to do better from the Savior Jesus Christ. Other times my faith becomes weak because of my own neglect or because of difficult circumstances in my life. In those times, I think the only thing we can do is pray for help from God. When we trust in Him, our faith is bolstered and our hope is renewed.
