Hi I'm Castalia Martin

Hello! My name is Castalia, I am going to school at Utah State and plan on majoring in Special Education and Deaf Education.

About Me

I am a student from Northern Utah, going to school majoring in Special Education and Deaf Education. I chose this because of my background, having deaf parents and a deaf sister, and a handicapped sister. I believe I have been given this amazing gift of knowing sign language so that I can help others. My sister who has a handicap has also taught me a lot about how special these individuals are, they truly are some of God's most precious children, and what better job than to work with the most innocent and loving of people? I am very passionate about my career choice, and I hope that because of it, I can help make a difference and share my testimony of this wonderful gospel with those around me!

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up, I had a difficult time. I was placed in a different situation than my friends, and lived a very different lifestyle. My parents did the absolute best for me, but I wasn't accepting of it. When I was 13, I moved in with an Aunt and Uncle. This transition as a young teenager was hard, and I didn't understand why everything that had happened to me, had happened. It was at that point I had to make the conscious decision; do I want to be a member of God's church, or not? I didn't have someone else who I could rely on spiritually; I had to take it directly to my Father in Heaven- Could I do this or not? I made a choice and decided I needed this church in my life. I made some changes and started developing good habits, like daily scripture reading and prayer. That eventually turned into studying, and gaining a better relationship with my Father in Heaven. That choice has shaped my life from that very day, bringing me to this exact spot. Every single day I am so thankful for the trials I have been given and would not trade them for anything. Because of all I have been through, I have come to know for myself that this church IS true, that my Heavenly Father loves me, and He has great things in store for me and everyone around me. I know that through the power of the Atonement and my Fathers love, I can become a better person and who I was intended to be. This Gospel has been the best blessing in my life.

How I live my faith

In today's very casual society, trying to live a Godly life is one of the hardest trials. Between trying to do good in school, working a job, attempting to have a social life, and attending all my church functions, life gets downright difficult. Trying to balance all these things is hard, especially church. Like anything else worth having, keeping a testimony of the truthfulness of this Gospel and the love our Savior has for us takes WORK. And lots of it, and sometimes I slack, but I am human too. But everyday I strive; I strive to be close to my Heavenly Father by studying my scriptures, constantly having a prayer in my heart, being an example of the believers and serving those around me. I think it is human nature to get down on ourselves when we aren't "perfect" the way we know we should be, but we forget, that is what our Savior is there for. That's what He died for- so that we could give 100% of all we could, striving everyday to be a little bit better, and He would make up the rest, and I testify, He has. Striving to be better, everyday: That is how I live my faith.
