Hi I'm Rachel

I am a Washingtonian/Alaskan. I am a Geology student. I am a University Resident Assistant. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently an undergrad geology student whose goal is to someday work with the National Parks Service. I enjoy reading fiction, knitting/crocheting, baking, listening to country music, painting, batiking, and spending time with my friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

Before I left for school the missionaries at my best friends family ward gave me the Book of Mormon. At that time in my life I chose not to accept the Gospel because I was skeptical from what I had heard about the Church. I was somehow compelled to take the Book of Mormon with me to school, however, it took me two years before I started reading it. As I continued to read the Book of Mormon I started to feel happier than I had ever been. I met a girl at a work training who was wearing a CTR ring, I asked her if she was LDS and she said no, that her best friend was. She got me in touch with her best friend who then met up with me and set me up a meeting with the Sister Missionaries at her YSA branch. I attended my first lesson and I knew then that I was on the right path. Through many lessons and constant prayer I eventually set my baptism date to November 14th and was then compelled a few weeks later to move it to October 13th. My family, living so far away felt left out of this process and were upset with my decision to be baptized without them. I decided to then put off my baptism for when I went home, however after doing so my life began to slowly get tough. I talked to the Sister Missionaries who suggested me to fast and pray about my decision. While fasting and praying and listening to talks at General Conference I began to feel better. The night of my last fasting day I opened my Book of Mormon and happened onto this passage from D&C 9:8, "But behold, I say unto you, that you must study it in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall fell that it is right." At that moment I felt a great warm comfort and knew that I should be baptized on October 13th. I am happy to say that I was baptized on October 13th and received the Gift of the Holy Ghost the following day. My life has changed for the better since the day I made a promise to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

With attending the university and working it is tough to keep my life in balance, but I do so with Faith in my Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. My three favorite days are Sundays where I am able to partake of the Sacrament and learn more about the Gospel and how to serve others, Monday nights when I am able to attend FHE with the other members of my YSA branch where we learn from each other on how to be better people, and Wednesday nights where I am able to learn more about the Gospel at Institute. I read or listen to my scriptures every day and pray as often as I can. I have found that the power of prayer is extraordinary.
