Hi I'm Tom

I am a husband, a father and a high school Spanish teacher and I love it! And I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I grew up in Rhode Island, went to Brigham Young University, served a mission for my church in Barcelona, Spain and then married my dear wife in 1996. I have 5 wonderful children that make me laugh every day. I love being a high school Spanish teacher and I have the best students in the whole world. Traveling with students to other Spanish-speaking countries is one of my favorite things to do and have been back to Spain twice and once to Argentina. I am also an Eagle Scout and am working on my Woodbadge. I believe strongly in supporting the Scouting program and am grateful to those who sacrifice their time to serve in scouting. I enjoy listening to music and trying new foods. I like traveling and being in the outdoors but don't do either of them enough. Helping other people and encouraging others to be the best they can be is my favorite thing to do.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have found peace and joy through living the gospel of Jesus Christ. Time and time again I have seen great blessings come through faith and trust in God, knowing that He is there and that he hears my prayers. I'm grateful to know that I mean that much to Him and that he desires all of us, his children, to be like Him. I have prayed for myself to know that the Book of Mormon is true and and have felt the Holy Ghost testifying to me of its' truthfulness. When I am striving to follow the principles that Christ taught us is when I am the happiest in life, that real deep-down peace, confidence and joy that is only found through following the Savior. That is why I am a Mormon and why I love being one!

How I live my faith

Serving in the church and striving to live the gospel of Jesus Christ has brought such great happiness and purpose in my life. I know God lives and loves me. I am currently serving as the Bishop of our congregation and have the opportunity and responsibility to encourage others to also strive to live the gospel principles that will lead them to greater happiness. I know our Heavenly Father cares for us and I try to be like Him by caring for others.

What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Reading and studying the scriptures brings me closer to my Heavenly Father. I think of it as if I were taking spiritual vitamins to fortify myself for that day. It reminds me of what is most important and in turn influences the choices I make throughout the day for the better. When I have spent time studying and pondering the teachings of Jesus Christ, it reminds me to have a prayer in my heart throughout the day and to try to be my best self. I also find that I am a greater help to those around me when I have read and pondered the gospel, and have put on that spiritual armor to protect me. Most of all, I feel God's love when I spend time with the scriptures and that motivates me to strive to be like Him. Show more Show less
