Hi I'm Shelley

I'm a graphic designer, piano enthusiast, and am going to be serving a mission in Uruguay! Oh, and I'm a Mormon. :)

About Me

Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be an artist. I can't even take notes without sketching something! Creating art makes me so happy, and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to study it in-depth in college, and just graduated with a Bachelor's degree! Right now I get to do all kinds of freelance design work, and I love it. I also really love playing the piano, probably more than I love creating art. I've been playing for around 15 years. This might be weird, but I actually enjoy the hard practice it takes to master a difficult piece! Someday I hope to teach piano lessons. My life is going to change drastically in the next few months, as I'll be leaving for 18 months to serve a full-time mission in Uruguay! I can't wait. :)

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and have awesome parents who taught me the gospel from an early age. I've just always known this is the true church of Jesus Christ. There was a period in my life, a couple years ago, when I had some doubts- did God really exist? Why did I go to church every Sunday, read my scriptures, pray, etc.? Were these things important? I finally came to the realization that I had always known there was a God; I had simply let myself forget. I hadn't been very good at praying and reading my scriptures, and I understood that doing those things brought me closer to God. That's why I forgot- I wasn't trying to come to know Him. Since then, my testimony of the gospel has only grown stronger. I can no longer doubt the existence of God, my Heavenly Father. I'm a Mormon because I believe the teachings of this church are true. I believe in God. I believe in Jesus Christ, and have a testimony of His atonement. The teachings of the church help me better understand my purpose in life. Being a member of this church fills me with so much peace and makes me so happy! I'm a Mormon because I want to be.

How I live my faith

Really, I think living your faith isn't some big, grand display. It's the small and simple things. I live my faith by praying, reading the scriptures, and attending church. I try to act in the way I know is right- being kind, doing service, and being honest. Soon, I will be living my faith by serving a mission, where I'll be teaching people in Uruguay about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I look forward to serving these people and seeing them come to feel the same joy the gospel brings me.
