Hi I'm Mary

I grew up in Ogden, Utah. I am serving a mission in the Laoag Philippines mission. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I am from Utah and I am 19 years old. I have only lived in Utah but I love traveling and I want to do a lot more traveling. I love playin soccer, skiing, climbing, wakeboarding, and being outside. I love my Utah mountains! I like to watch movies and TV shows - especially comedies. I love spending time with my family, I am the youngest of four children. I have great parents and awesome siblings that I really look up to. I have recently completed one semester of college and now I have decided to serve a mission for the church as a sister missionary. I will be serving in the Philippines Laoag mission for 18 months.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love this church. More and more everyday, I learn more about this church and my love for it grows. My parents are both members so you could say I was "born into" this church. But I don't like to look at that way. I have always been honest to myself that if I was going to be a Mormon, I was going to choose it for myself. I have a testimony of this gospel and it came to me through personal revelation and many years of seeing the blessings in my life. I am so eternally grateful for the privilege I have had to know this truth and I feel that is my responsibility to let others have the opportunity to accept it. I am a Mormon because I know, in my heart, and in every inch of my being that this is Heavenly Father's plan for us. Life has a purpose, a plan, and an end goal - we are on this earth for a reason and Heavenly Father wants the very best for us.

How I live my faith

I love my church! I love attending my ward every Sunday. All the members have so much to offer and I learn from them every week. I live my faith by continuing to attend church every Sunday, attending activities during the week, and helping out with anything going on. I really enjoy getting to know members in my ward and making sure that I can help others out in any way I can.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Dressing for church is considered your "Sunday best". As a female in the church, I wear a dress or a skirt with modest tops and other accessories. Men wear suits or dress shirts with ties. I really enjoy dressing up because it shows your respect and creates a more reverent environment. Looking nice also helps my own self worth and it is nice to get dressed up every week. Mormons celebrate mainly Easter and Christmas, and all other regional or national holidays. I have always celebrated Halloween, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. Show more Show less
