Hi I'm Travis W.

I'm from rural Nevada. I spend my days as a student and ballroom dancer. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student studying geography. I love getting to know how others live and how they interact. On top of school, I am a member of the ballroom dance company. I have been dancing for a little over four years and have loved every minute of it. It is a way for me to interact with others in a positive way that leaves all feeling better about themselves and what they can do. If I'm not studying for the next round of midterms or practicing my samba steps, I can be found up in the mountains enjoying the cool crisp air along with the rest of mother nature. It is a way that I can just step into my own little world, being surrounded by what God has created. Some of my fondest memories are of just spending the afternoon with friends or family enjoying the great outdoors. School, ballroom, nature, it is what I do and what I enjoy.

Why I am a Mormon

I haven't always been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I met with the missionaries when I was 14 and was baptized a year later. I was the only member of my family to accept the glad message presented. After being baptized, my family cut me out of their lives. It would have been an easy thing to renounce my new faith to get my family back, but that wasn't the right thing to do. I know that by following Christ, I would be blessed and protected. It wasn't going to be easy, but the Lord provides a way for all of His children to live a happy and productive life. I know this is true. I have been able to accomplish so much, but not on my own. It has been through the savior of the world, Jesus Christ. This is why I am a Mormon, because I love God and this is His Church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday. It is really important to me that I focus on growing closer to Jesus Christ each day, not just on Sundays. I do this by looking for people around me that need help or comfort. They are all around us, and it is easy to help them feel better about themselves. Whether it is a compliment about their clothes, asking them how their day is going, or it is just a simple smile. These mean a lot to people and it is what God wants. He wants His children to help bear one another's burdens and rejoice in each other's successes. While at church, I participate by being a teacher. I have the opportunity to teach a group of young men, and discuss how we can be better disciples of Jesus Christ. I learn so much from them, and I hope that in the process I can teach them a thing or two as well. The experiences shared there are very strong and help me get through the week focusing on what is really important.
