Hi I'm Dana

I play trombone. I run marathons. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My main love is music. I play trombone in an orchestra and with a trombone choir. My other love is for fitness and exercise. I used to be overweight as a child and young adult, and after I had been married about 3 years I decided to get healthy. I lost over 100lbs and now I love running. I will be running my 3rd marathon soon, and have run several other running distance events. I also joined a rowing club and competed in some regattas. For fun I love watching TV and hula hooping, spending time with my husband and also my dog.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by members of the church, so I have been officially a member since I was baptized when I was 8 years old. Both of my parents were converts to the church, they joined as adults. I worked hard as a youth to develop a strong testimony that the church is true. I went to an early morning seminary (scripture study class) in high school, before the regular school day started, which really helped me to develop a knowledge that the gospel is true. When I went away to college, it could have been easy to fall into a habit of not going to church and I won't say I never questioned my beliefs. But every time I asked a question, I prayed and received the answer that the church was true. I stayed a strong and active member of the church there while away at college, and I stay a member of the church to this day because I know that it is true. The Book of Mormon is a true book that was translated through revelation by the prophet Joseph Smith. Jesus Christ is our Savior and the Son of God. He suffered for our sins so that we may repent of them, and led the way through resurrection that we can someday be resurrected and return to live eternally with our Father in Heaven. We have a living prophet today in Thomas S. Monson. This gospel is wonderful and amazing, it blesses my life every day that I am true to it's teachings. I try my best to stay strong. I'm not perfect, but receiving a confirmation of my testimony when I pray I know that the church is true and I need to try my best to follow the teachings, and I will continue to do so for the rest of my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday by making choices to do the things I know are right. At church I work with the Young Women's organization for girls that are 12-18 years old. They are an amazing group of young ladies and they inspire me! I try to help them see ways they can make the best choices to become strong, productive women. We meet once a week outside of church and have activities to strengthen their values. I like to go to the class my husband teaches for new and investigating members of the church. We talk about the basics and it's beautiful to see when people are recognizing gospel truths for the first time. I also often help out with the children's classes, filling in if a teacher is absent. Once a month I work with another woman from church to reach out to fellow sisters of ours in the church. I'm not great at this part - but when I follow through, it is extremely rewarding. I love when I myself am visited as well by a fellow sister. Our church group also has a potluck dinner after church once a month, and it's really fun to interact casually with each other.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Not at all! We give help to those that need it. Mormons often go do service in areas that have been stricken by natural disaster and send aid and supplies. Show more Show less
