Hi I'm Courtney

I have a bachelor's degree in English. I love the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello everybody! I am twenty-three years old, and I come from an active Mormon family. My parents joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1993, and I am forever grateful for their choice and for the missionaries that brought the Gospel into our home. I am the oldest of five children. My family is a blended family, and I love each and every member of my family. During my free time, I enjoy hiking and camping, music, reading British literature and watching British film, writing, seeing Shakespeare productions, and cooking. I am a Seminary and an Institute graduate. I love learning! I am currently serving a mission in the Brazil Rio de Janeiro mission!!! :)

Why I am a Mormon

I choose to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints not because my parents are, but because I searched for and developed my own personal testimony of the Gospel. Everyone has the opportunity as a child of God to pray to Heavenly Father and ask him what is true, just like Joseph Smith prayed fervently in the woods for an answer to what church to join. God is no respector of persons, and through my study, I have come to realize that we all have a personal, divine potential within us that sometimes Heavenly Father only sees because we live in a world where society constantly put us down. He has not left us alone. We have the Prophet, scriptures, teachers, and so many other resources including our Heavenly Father to help us along our journey on Earth. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is real, and it is for everyone. No matter what you have been through or what you may endure, Heavenly Father's ways will never change. In a world of mass confusion, the Church is something stable and hopeful I can hold onto as I continue to become what the Lord wants me to be. I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because I have found hope and peace in the trials I have gone through by the Atonement of Jesus Christ, and I prefer to sacrifice worldly fame and pleasure for the beautiful, eternal life that is to come, for great will be the treasures of heaven.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being an active member of the Church every day of the week, not just Sunday. When the Prophet tells to "become," it must be a daily commitment to constantly improve ourselves and draw closer to our Savior and our Heavenly Father. I try to look for service opportunites daily, and I have set a goal for myself to see the positives in everything, no matter how grim the day may seem. One of my favorite scriptures is Doctrine and Covenants 121:7-9, where the Prophet Joseph Smith is in Liberty Jail. It reads: "My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment; And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes. Thy friends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again with warm hearts and friendly hands." Heavenly Father would never give us any trial that we could not handle. We may come to realize though that we cannot endure the trial without His help, and we are brought to our knees with humility. I am so grateful that we have callings, especially visiting teaching and home teaching, that can help us to have the Spirit with us throughout the week and help us to find and feel that Christlike love for all people. I also have the blessing to work with youth and children, and they shine the way of light and truth.
