Hi I'm Chase

I work in financial services and enjoy traveling with my wife. And, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up playing sports, and I still enjoy playing for fun. I like to read biographies of people who have influenced the world. It's fascinating to read their backgrounds. Their stories inspire me. I graduated in finance and began my career in investment banking; I now work in private equity. My wife and I met in college. She is working on a graduate degree in biochemistry. We like the outdoors and have fun snowboarding and hiking.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents taught me that when I was looking for guidance and when I wanted to know something for myself, I could pray to Heavenly Father, who would answer my prayers. Growing up I knew that the Holy Ghost would never lead me away from God. These two bases helped me to find ways to be close to God and know for myself what is true. For example, in the Church we talk of having a living prophet, someone like Moses who speaks with God and leads God's people. Every six months the current prophet speaks, along with the living apostles. The way that I know they are the Lord's mouthpiece is by listening to what they say and making the changes they suggest. As I have done that, I have felt the Holy Ghost assure me that they are the Lord's representatives. I want the continued guidance they give, which is one reason why I am a Mormon. Another reason to be a Mormon is the opportunity to follow the plan of salvation or the plan of happiness. In the Church we believe God had a plan for all of us before we were born. We came to earth to be tested to see if we would follow Jesus and return to God's presence, pure and clean. Since we are all imperfect, we needed someone to save us from our sins. Jesus gave himself as a sacrifice and asks that we make covenants, or promises, to keep the commandments. Manifestations of covenants are ordinances, like baptism, that allow us to return to God's presence, clean. God has given His prophet and apostles the Priesthood, or the authority to act in God's name, in order to perform ordinances. I know that the living prophet and apostles have the Priesthood. They, in turn, give it to men around the world who perform the saving ordinances for men and women to return to God's presence. Being able to make covenants with God to be able to return to His presence is another reason I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

In the Church, leaders extend callings or assignment to members to allow them opportunities to serve and develop Christlike attributes. My calling is to be the secretary of the ecclesiastical leader, the bishop, of our congregation. Members set up appointments through me to meet with the bishop for counsel or to discuss concerns. My calling has helped me to realize that most people have struggles at one point or another in their lives; I have tried to find ways to help them and be sensitive to their problems. I know that without a calling I would be much more self-centered and less understanding of others. Another opportunity members of the Church have to help other people is a program called home teaching. Two men are assigned to watch over a few families. Watching over the families usually includes: visiting them each month, sharing gospel messages with them, and offering to help the families with service around the house. As I have fulfilled responsibilities of a home teacher I have noticed that I am more loving to my wife and more prone to notice the needs of other people. Our Sunday meetings are the time when I try to think of what happened the previous week and what I should change to be more like Christ. During the classes I try to internalize the messages and think of what they mean for me and my wife. The best thing I usually get out of the classes is not something said by the teacher, but something I felt from the Holy Ghost. I have always felt that he is the messenger from God who prompts me to keep the commandments and follow Jesus Christ. I only feel the Holy Ghost's influence when I'm trying to do the right thing in my life. If there is something that I need to change I will repent and commit to be better in the coming week. Sunday, for me, is a day to reflect on what is going on in my life and see how well I am following God's plan.
