Hi I'm Shannon

I love to dance. I love to ice skate. I love music. I love to try new things and challenge myself. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an everyday kind of girl. I'm the epitome of jack of all trades master of none. I've never done anything extraordinary but I have done a little bit of everything. I always like to be trying something new whether it's ice skating, dancing, performing in plays, playing the flute/violin/piano/drums/guitar, snowmobiling, skiing, singing... you get the point. Of course, I haven't really done EVERYTHING but that's what's most exciting! There are so many things that I want to try, so many experiences yet to have, places to see, adventures to cross off of my bucket list, people to meet. I think it all boils down to: I love to learn. Through breaking out of my comfort zone I have learned so much about myself and others, this is why I love trying new things, meeting new people, going to college, and traveling. While it may sound like I am kind of all over the place as I look for more things to learn about, one thing has always stayed constant in my life: I'm a Mormon. I have had the opportunity to learn so many things over my life and can't wait to learn a great deal more. And while this pursuit of learning has caused me to adjust certain aspects of my life, I have found that the more I learn, the more I know that this church that I have been fortunate enough to belong to for my entire life is true and it is the full truth. This church has brought me happiness and comfort that can only be described as miraculous. I love this church. I'm so grateful for it. I'm proud to be a Mormon.

Why I am a Mormon

I have many incredible friends from other denominations. They are hard-working people who try every day to be a better and better person. They are such wonderful people and I look up to them. However, I can tell through the time I have spent with them that something is missing, that there are important questions that remain unanswered or unconfirmed like: Why am I here? Why do bad things happen to good people? What will happen when I die? Where/What was I before I was born? The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has provided me with those answers and as I have sincerely prayed, I have discovered for myself that these answers are true. The simplest way to same why I am a Mormon is because I know it is true. I wouldn't waste my time with it if I didn't know it was. As I said in my introduction I love to learn and I have a hard time being satisfied with just one thing (like only being a dancer or only playing the guitar) I find myself always looking for something that will make me feel more fulfilled but the area of religion is completely different. I have always been a part of this church but it wasn't until around the age of 16 that I really wanted to find out if I was just attending this church because my parents told me to or if I actually believed in it. As I studied and prayed I received my answer. I know this church is true, I so often feel the peace and comfort that it gives me and the happiness it brings to my life and I cannot deny it. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I know that it is true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by being happy. Happiness is one of the great blessings I have received from being a member of this church and I love it when friends or colleagues will approach me and ask me why I am always so elated and really it's because of this church and what I have learned from it. That God and his son Jesus Christ didn't just create the world but that they know me, that they love me, and that they are aware of my needs. Because of this church I know that I can be with my family forever, I know that through repentance all of my sins can be washed away, and I know that if I follow Christ that I can live with Him and God again in Heaven. I have found that this church has opened my eyes to the blessings that surround me and the more I learn about his gospel, the more grateful I am for everything I have. I have definitely had my share of trials and I know that I have many coming my way but because of this church and the gospel it teaches I have found true happiness. Not the happiness that comes from getting an A on an exam or from holding your crush's hand for the first time, no, that happiness fades over time. But the happiness that strengthens your soul and provides you with an unceasing comfort and peace as you continue trying to be the best person you can be. When people ask me why I'm smiling I just say "why not?" with this wonderful world surrounding us and so many incredible blessings each day why not choose to be happy. Hard things of course will happen but through this church I have learned that no matter how long the darkness may seem, the dawn will always follow. I show my faith in the rising sun by being happy and emanating the wonderful peace that this gospel has brought me.
