Hi I'm Austin

I'm a nature lover, I enjoy my harmonica, I appreciate a hearty laugh, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Well once again, my name is Austin, I am from Idaho and I love the outdoors. Really though, hiking with my friends and fishing with my family are some of the greatest experiences I have had in my life. Honestly I am just someone who enjoys having a great time with my friends and I can be pretty loud sometimes, but I like to think of myself as a fun-loving guy. I studied elementary things at an elementary school, then went to a middle school and high school. It was fun I guess. Then I had the amazing opportunity to study at Utah State University for a year, such a good time, my blood bleeds blue for the Aggies, and also because I am a democrat, but that's not as important.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? Good question. When I was young we had no set church. My parents were both baptized into the church when they were young but it really had no place in their lives after that. As we were growing up we went to different churches with family friends, including the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from time to time. I can remember from a young age I always wanted to have a relationship with God. When I was very young my family was in a very bad car wreck. Our car flew off the highway and rolled a few times. My family and I escaped with only a few cuts and bruises. I believe that God had a hand in protecting us and had a greater purpose for us. In third grade I remember I started reading the Bible to find out what it really was. I didn't get very far but I remember the good feelings I had while reading it. When I was 10 my parents got a divorce. It was very hard on us, but as a last ditch effort to save the marriage my parents invited the missionaries over, hoping that returning to their LDS roots would salvage the marriage. Unfortunately it didn't but my brothers and I joined the church. From then until I was about 14 I still didn't go to church very often, but then I became involved with the Young Men program of the church. They really involved me and helped me out a lot. I would be lost if I wasn't a Mormon, and I have found this gospel has given me many more freedoms than I could have ever had without it in my life.

How I live my faith

I just try to do my best to live the teachings of this church. I have been really touched by the Young Men's program of the church and it has really shaped my life. I always tried to do my best when serving in those groups to help my peers and also myself become better young men, who will hopefully someday become great men. I try to live an honest life and often think what would Jesus do. It has been hard but of course I am far from perfect. Currently I am exercising my faith by serving a 2 year proselyting mission in the Bicol region of the Philippines. It has been an amazing experience as I have not only been teaching, but learning so much for myself about this gospel, the gospel of Jesus Christ. I study from the Bible and Book of Mormon everyday and try to implement what I learned from that study into my every day life.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Austin
Of course we do! We believe that the Bible is the word of God. How fortunate we are to have two testaments of Jesus Christ in the King James version of the Bible. We also believe in a third testament in the Book of Mormon. Through these words of guidance from God we can know all things that we must do in this life. Show more Show less
