Hi I'm Catharine

I am from a small town in the south of Scotland but now live in Edinburgh. I love my family and friends and I'm a mormon

About Me

I am 22 years old and I am currently in my last year of university studying Business Management. It's been a tough degree but I really enjoy it and soon i'll be free to (hopefully) find a good job and visit lots of new places. I absolutely LOVE going to dances and other similar activities and I am a very social person. Anyone is welcome in my home and it has definitely become a very social home. I have grown up in the church from the age of 4 as my Mum was a convert to the church. My Grandmother and brother are also members of the church. Although my Dad is a non-member and he is not with my Mum I am so blessed to have wonderful and loving parents. During difficult times my younger brother, who is currently on a mission, was always a great example to me and we have a very close relationship. Family is the most important thing in my life after the gospel and Jesus Christ. I like to think of myself as quite friendly and welcoming and although sometimes difficult I do love to share the gospel and tell people about my beliefs. I guess i'm just a fun kind of girl who loves to have a good time but has standards that mean I can do this without compromising myself :)

Why I am a Mormon

I am a mormon for many reasons but the main one is because I know that Christ lives and that I want to be with my family for time and all eternity. We have been promised that we can have eternal families and that is such an incredible blessing to me. Although I grew up in the church I still needed to be converted and I had to pray and pray and read the scriptures and pray more and read more. By doing this I received answers to my prayers in incredible ways and I could never deny the feelings and comfort of the spirit. I know that it is possible to be happy outwith the gospel, however I do not believe that it is possible to feel true joy outwith the gospel. There have been times when I have felt sorrow and pain but the joy that I have felt from being a member of this church is truely wonderful to me and the love of Christ is so overpowering that I could never imagine not following him. I am Catharine, I am a student and I am proud to be a mormon.

How I live my faith

I am currently a leader in youth with the Young Woman and I enjoy it so much. Having this calling has seriously made me re-evaluate some things in my own life and made me recognise that I am an example to others and should show kindness to all. The girls are so much fun and sometimes when i'm in class I feel like i'm a teenager again. It's great to be part of a support and source of advice for these young women, who at times are unsure who to turn to in difficult trials. As I said we have tonnes of fun but I also learn a lot about faith and virtue from these amazing girls, I think that I quite often learn more from then than they learn from me. I have been in the same ward for a few years and although a lot of people come and go I love to see the same faces every week and it's even better to see new ones.

What is faith?

Catharine
Faith is something very personal and each persons faith can be very different and at different levels. To me, having faith is taking action based on something that you believe, even if there is no scientific or physical proof. To have faith is to follow feelings of the spirit and feelings in your heart that you know are true. Quite often acting on faith is a challenge, it can involve going against what your head is telling you or what some people around you are telling you but faith will always be rewarded and we are promised that if we have faith and act upon it then we will have blessings poured upon us.
