Hi I'm Jennifer

I am passionate about education and chocolate. I love biographies and being inspired by great people, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stay at home mom currently homeschooling my five children. Though it is one of the hardest things I have ever done, I love it. I love reading, eating dark chocolate and watching period movies. Since I have 4 boys and 1 girl, I am trying to be a better "boy's mom", since I am usually a girly-girl.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in Utah in a Mormon home. However, I am a Mormon simply because I know it is true. As implausible as the Joseph Smith story might sound to some, I have prayed about it and have felt God tell me it is true. Every time I read the Book of Mormon, I feel a difference in my life, a desire to be better, to be closer to God. The Book of Mormon and the Bible compliment each other beautifully and teach of God's plan and our Savior Jesus Christ. Another big part of my testimony are temples. Temples are my favorite place to be, besides my home. I feel such a huge sense of God's love when I am there. The sacrifice of my Savior is brought home to me and my love for Him grows. I know that we are here on earth to choose what kind of a life we want to live. I want to show my Father that I love Him and want to be with Him after this life.

How I live my faith

I try to live like Jesus Christ, though I fall far short of it--everyday. But my goal is to be close enough to God that I can listen to His Spirit and follow what it tells me to do immediately. I love to get up early before the rest of my family and pray and read the scriptures. This helps me get centered and be a better person throughout the day. Currently, my focus is to help my children know that God loves them no matter what. But I also want them to love Him--no matter what. I want Jesus Christ to be real to them. I also work with 10-12 year old girls and do activities with them that focus on spirituality, talents, service and learning.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

I think you will find that Mormon women are pretty normal. :) However, I do think that we have a very clear picture of what life is about. Life is about showing God that we choose Him, above everything else. We do this by taking care of others around us. Many times, this means having and raising children to be faithful to God. Life is not about getting the highest paying job, it is having the highest form of satisfaction when you look back on your life. A meaningful relationship with God and our families brings happiness. As women in the church, we are encouraged to develop and use our talents in the highest and best form possible, to create and contribute, to explore our passions. We also try to use wisdom in how we spend our time and resources so that our pursuit of these things do not negatively affect our families. Mormons ABSOLUTELY believe in the equality of men and women. Equal, but not identical. Men and women are undeniably different. Men and women have different general roles, but each family does what they need to, to make their family function. My husband has never treated me as being "less" than he is. I have only ever heard church leaders speak about women with ultimate respect. Show more Show less
