Hi I'm Melissa

I'm a musician, a teacher, and a mother. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I get to stay at home with my one-year old boy, and I love it. Once a week, I let my husband take over and I teach ten students violin and piano lessons. I have been teaching for years, and I think that helping people (especially children) learn how to read music and play their instruments with expression is one of the most rewarding things in my life. I used to teach a lot more, and I also got to be a rehearsal pianist for our city's ballet company. Now that my son is around, I spend more time pushing him on the swings at the park than playing scales. Someday when he's old enough, I'm planning on counting him as one of my piano students.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I believe the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the best way for me to become close with my Heavenly Father. I have a deep testimony of the truthfulness of the scriptures and of the promises that can be found there. One of these promises are included in the scripture Mosiah 2:41. "..if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness... I want to be happy, and live with my family in a state of never-ending happiness. I think that the best way to obtain happiness is to have a close relationship with our Heavenly Father. Through the gospel, we can learn about the process of forming that relationship. We can learn how to listen to the Holy Ghost, and our lives will change profoundly when we seek the promptings and feel the comfort of our heavenly friend. We can learn about the Plan of Salvation and about how the generations of our families are preserved and protected through the sealing powers found in the temple. We can learn how to better love each other. We can learn how to make intelligent choices temporally, while still understanding our eternal plan. I'm a Mormon because the times in my life I have felt the happiest and most at peace are when I am living the gospel, when I am involved at church, and when I am working on strengthening my relationship with Heavenly Father. It makes sense that the church uses the title "The Plan of Happiness" because at the very root of this gospel is joy. I feel so fortunate to feel that joy every day, and I know it's because I know the truth of the gospel.

How I live my faith

My husband and I help out in our branch by watching nursery age kids (18 mo-3 years) while their parents go to other meetings. It's a fun job, and we are both getting good at sculpting with play-doh and making truck sounds.
