Hi I'm Joe Szendre

I'm a Biochemistry (Pre-med) student at BYU and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a missionary serving in Boise ID and a junior at Brigham Young University studying Russian and pre-dentistry courses. As I've taken Russian classes these last two years I've really learned to love the Russian language, people and culture. I was really surprised when I was called to Boise, but it's been incredible, in this last and first week I've run into a serbo-croatian, polish woman as well as two russians as referrals. I look forward to serving the people of Boise ID and bringing the restored gospel to Slavic immigrants living here. I love my family, most things Russian, playing the organ, piano and learning.

Why I am a Mormon

I've lived in the Church all my life, and have always felt good about my membership. I've had miracles happen in my life. When I was a child God helped my dog to heal after he who was run over after I promised to honor my father and mother. I had felt the Holy Ghost on many occasions before, and knew that God lived, but the actual knowledge that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is really Jesus Christ's church came through the Book of Mormon. The summer after I graduated high school I read the Book of Mormon and could feel the truth of it as I felt healing from guilt and certain pains that I had been living with. I could feel it working in my soul, and knew it was God's word. This was enough to exercise my faith leaving home, still going to Church and serving others. With that came the Holy Ghost into my life and that has brought my firm belief to knowledge. Now as I read the Book of Mormon daily I feel the Holy Ghost each time. I'm a Mormon because I know it really is the true Church of Jesus Christ and that he leads it through the living prophet and other apostles.

How I live my faith

I base my life off of the scriptures and the words of the living prophets. I hope to continually repent (being born again) and "plan my life with purpose" (President Thomas S. Monson). The Gift of the Holy Ghost is real and available to all worthy members of the Church. While all other people can occasionally feel the power of the Holy Ghost, the gift thereof allows the Holy Ghost to be with me always, a presence I can always feel so long as keeping the commandments. While I'm serving full-time right now as a missionary, I still do what I can to help others in any way I can and be a good example.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Joe Szendre
One of the pillar's my testimony stands on is God's consistency in keeping his many words to his children. One way this is manifested is in the Book of Mormon, that I can always feel the Holy Ghost testify that everything in the Book has and will come to pass. Through that Book and the New Testament the Holy Ghost has witnessed to me in great power that Jesus is the Christ, truly the only begotten of our Heavenly Father. These things have become sure, not that I've seen with own eyes, but that the promises and principles that are in the books can be lived and the blessings consistent with obedience to them obtained.
