Hi I'm DJ Gillespie

I am a Student. I love the Outdoors and playing Music. I am a Computer Engineer in Training, and I am a Mormon :D

About Me

I am a college student at the University of Utah working on a bachelors degree in Computer Engineering with a minor in Music. I am what most people would consider a computer geek, but also enjoy the outdoors and hiking, backpacking, and biking. Currently I am serving a mission for the church (hence the love for biking!).

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church. That being said, I do know this is God's true and living church not because I was raised with these beliefs, but because I sought to learn truth and what my Heavenly Father wanted of me in return for the gifts he has given me. I know God lives and loves us and wants the very best for us and that if we ask him with the intent on acting on what he tells us, he will always tell us the path best fit for us to return to his presence and live with our families forever. He answered my prayer- He will answer yours.

How I live my faith

Religion is not just a place you can go for a few hours every Sunday. It's a way of life, no matter what. Many can say what they know, but it's really how you live that shows what you truly know. I have tried to make this my standard in life- to Be rather than to just do and move on. Before being called to be a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I worked with the youth in the scouting program. I tried, and continue to be as involved in the community as possible, whether that be raking leaves for my neighbors, participating in, and planning community service projects, contributing my time and efforts to help out with the youth, or just smiling at everyone I meet. As I began to further my schooling career, I began to notice that I could no longer pass by being passive in my faith- I had to take a stance and dig beyond the apparent disharmony between science and religion. Just like everything else, we have to live first by faith as we learn. It took me a while to understand that. I wanted everything to make sense without putting in the needed work to prepare myself for that knowledge. There is no way you can "cram" in spiritual matters. I know that for certain now, and live by that principle every day. As a missionary I work with other missionaries to share the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and invite others to come unto him through faith, baptism, receiving the gift of the holy ghost, and enduring to the end.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

DJ Gillespie
Mormons live their lives very similarly to everyone else. We learn in the scriptures that "...men are that they might have joy" and so members of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints seek to fulfill that scripture by living in ways that they know can bring happiness in the long term, rather than pleasure in the short term even though the world around us is such an instant gratification sort of world.
