Hi I'm Andrew Williams

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a single young man who lives in the West of the United States. My hobbies include all of the following: hanging with my friends, watching movies and TV, and listening to music. I like singing in the school choirs. I served in the Mississippi Jackson Mission. I like to learn more and more about myself and others. I like to perform service for others so that not only they but myself can be blessed as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I would like to share my testimony that this church is more than what is said in politics. It is a place that you can go to and they actually care about you and your family. I have experienced this first hand myself. I am going to be leaving on a LDS mission to Mississippi and my ward decided that they would help me and my family by paying for the whole thing and I planned on paying for the whole thing myself. I feel really blessed to be a member of this ward and community and this religion.

How I live my faith

I participate in my community by helping and being a part of the theater and music programs. I subteach the youth in my home ward. I love to go hometeaching with my partner.

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Andrew Williams
No we don't just help others of our faith. We help those that are in need of our services. We help the elderly who have health problems. The young womens program wants the young women to get to know all of the elderly widows in the area. The young mens program requires us to have done service for others not just members. How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Andrew Williams
The Book of Mormon is very similar to the Bible. Although it sets us apart from all the other religions it goes right with the Bible. A heavenly messenger came and visited the boy Joseph Smith. His name was Moroni. He was one of the last writers to have the golden plates or the Book of Mormon as we call it today. The Book of Mormon unlike the Bible asks us to pray about it to see if it's true or not. We are told that by the power of the Holy Ghost we may know the truth so by that same power that you feel when you read the Bible if you feel it's influence than you know that it truly is from God. Joseph Smith followed the instructions he was given by the angel Moroni and when he came of a certain age the angel said that it was time for Joseph to translate the the plates. Isaiah prophesied in Chapter 29 that a learned man wouldn't be able to read the book because it would be sealed. Joseph wasn't learned he had a fourth grade education level no nearly where someone who had gone to college would have been in their learning. Show more Show less

Who is the Mormon prophet today?

Andrew Williams
The current prophet that God has called today is Russell M. Nelson.. If God would call a prophet in ancient times why would He not call one today especially when in the Bible He declares, "I'm the same, yesterday, today, and forever"? I believe that if He is the way he says that He says He is I don't see why he wouldn't call a prophet again to the earth to lead all of His children back to Him. If you go someplace that is completely foreign to you wouldn't you take a map or even a GPS so you would have something to give you direction? That is what the role of prophet is for us he is the road map or GPS back to Father in Heaven. He also is the mouth piece to relay the message that we are in need to hear as of this current time. Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Andrew Williams
We believe both men and women have a specific role in life. Men are to be the bread winners of the family while women are to teach the children how to act and behave. Women don't hold the priesthood because we believe that they have a higher calling to bear children and give them life. The women of the Church have a society where they are able to help each other and strengthen each other. It's called Relief Society and the women help each other in ways that they know how. Men and women are and never have been one better than the other they have always been help mates for each other. They help each other in more ways than they can imagine. The First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles have made a document called The Family A Proclamation to the World and it discusses this more in detail. Show more Show less

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Andrew Williams
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is very important for us to understand and is the most important thing in the world. The Atonement of Jesus Christ was performed just after Christ and His apostles partook of the Last Supper. They traveled to the Garden of Gethsemane where Christ plead to the Father to make the burden lighter for him to carry. The Father sent an angel to comfort His Son as he went through the agony of bleeding at every pore for every person to ever enter the world. Then came the ridicule He would face as He was passed from king to king and spat upon by all. Then came the scourge where He went through something not many people usually survived and he was bruised for all of our iniquities. The last step to the Atonement process came when Christ himself was raise on the cross and crucified which brought with it death and the Resurrection of all of mortal men. The reason it was necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice Himself was because only a perfect individual was able to return to live with God again. Show more Show less

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Andrew Williams
I think many people call "Mormonism" a cult because many people are afraid of what they don't understand or are afraid to understand something they don't fully comprehend. You can look up in the dictionary the word cult and it reads that a cult is "a particular system of religious worship." So really any religion can be considered a cult. However many people are plain afraid of what they do not know in way of information. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has only been around since 1830 but it talks of Christ, teaches of Christ, and continually learns from the words and teachings of Christ. For the most part however I think that many people are just afraid of something they don't understand and they are afraid to learn more so that they can understand more about it. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe happens to us after we die? What do Mormons believe about life after death?

Andrew Williams
Death has never been the end. Everyone looks at it as the end of one persons journey and that they get heaven or hell. When we read in the bible that it tells us that Jesus went to a place to teach the three days while His body lay in the tomb. The Book of Mormon tells us as well that those who have died return to that God which gave them life. Death opens the door to many more possibilities than we can simply imagine. Death is simply the deposit of one thing for something more incredible to happen next. When we die we leave a physical body and return to a place where all of God's children will be able to wait for the time of judgement after we are all resurrected both body and Spirit together as one like the Son never to be separated again. What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Andrew Williams
The missionaries share a message about Jesus Christ and about His Restored Gospel as it was in ancient times. The missionaries teach about a plan that is meant to be heard by all people. They also want to help you build a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ and you Heavenly Father. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Andrew Williams
Just as is written in the Bible, Christ told the Apostles, "to go out into the world and teach every kindred, tongue, and people" We continue the proclamation given by His hand because if one comes to find that the Church is true then you want to share the joy you have with others. Many times you see us either riding bikes or knocking on your door. Many times we want to share a message about Jesus Christ. When you have a joyful thing are you as an individual going to hold it back or let it loose and tell everyone you meet? It's human instinct to share things with each other even things of the spiritual nature. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

Andrew Williams
We believe that baptizing our new members is them showing that they are ready to begin a new chapter in their life. When baptism is done by the proper priesthood authority then you are making a covenant. Where as if you are being baptized into another church you are showing a wonderful step of faith. When we are baptized by the holy priesthood we are able to wash our sins away. We are able to feel a difference than when we were baptized before. It helps the new member to feel like that they are beginning a new chapter. Show more Show less

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Andrew Williams
Mormon women are women who act just like every other woman. Some have a higher standard than others. Mormons do believe that men and women are created equal. Women give birth to the children and help to nurture the children. Both the men and women are equally responsible for raising the children up the proper way. When both men and women are involved in the life of children then we see fewer crimes committed whereas when just one of the parents is involved in the children's life they are missing an element and they become a consequence of their own environment. What do Mormons believe about “eternal life?”

Andrew Williams
We believe that eternal life will be granted to every one who shall follow the commandments and also will live a good life. We know that those of us who are willing to do the things that we are commanded may be able receive this gift but in the life to come not this one. Many of things in the scriptures tell us that we will be given this gift when the time for judgment come and what we have done will be told us. The book of life will be what we will be judged out of when our time arrives and that will either condemn us or tell Him if we are able to have eternal life. Show more Show less

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Andrew Williams
A ward is a large number of members who are congregated in a specific area. A bishop, is a member of the congregation, presides over the large congregation in the specific area. A branch is a smaller group of members in a specific area and just like a ward a member is called to watch over the branch and he is called the branch president. A stake is a large group that is geographically set up with a specific number of wards and branches within it's boundaries. All of these are where members and others of like mindedness meet and then learn. In a stake just like in the branch and ward a member maybe from one of the wards/branches is selected to be the person who is called the stake president. When we are all met together we teach and it doesn't matter wherever you go in the world the church and it's teachings are always the same. Show more Show less

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Andrew Williams
Modesty and chastity go hand in hand. When you are dressed modestly you have less of a tendency to have inappropriate relationships with others. Parents can teach their children to be more modest by teaching them that their bodies are a temple and that having intimacy with others is best had within marriage. Parents can teach their children to also have good language by setting the example of what type of language is appropriate. Children are always observing their parents so what you do I your life is a big factor to it all what they see you doing they deem is appropriate for them to do. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons have paid clergy?

Andrew Williams
We believe that you should want to do good for others and we want our members to want to help one another from the goodness of their hearts. Our members have their every day jobs and they an income from that. Christ and the Apostles weren't paid when they went and preached to the people. We believe everything in the church is done as a service to our fellow beings. We help lift one another's burdens and mourning with those that mourn. We know that service is the greatest thing that we can do to help our brothers and sisters. The Lord told his apostles to go without purse and script so they didn't get paid. So why should we get paid for something that they didn't in times of old. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Andrew Williams
The Mormon lifestyle is not hard to live. Mormons live just like everyone else we just have a higher standard of living. The Mormons don't drink coffee, tea, don't smoke, use illegal drugs or do maybe some of the things that many of the rest of the world likes to learn. We have extra commandments that help us to live healthier lives such as the word of wisdom. Some people find these standards just a bit hard to live. Others have found that when they gave the lifestyle a try that they liked it. They also found that they had more energy to do the things that they loved most in their life. Show more Show less
