Hi I'm Daren

I grew up moving all over the States and Europe. The gospel has really helped me stay strong.

About Me

I can't call any place my "home", because the longest I have ever spent in a single house is four years, this is because of my Dad's job; as he progressed in his career, we moved from location to location. I love sports, especially football, soccer, rock climbing, and anything that involves physical activity. I also enjoy art; drawing, painting, and sculpting, along with that I love to take time to read, science fiction and fantasy book series are my favorites. I speaking French fluently, and know some Spanish. Very soon I will know Spanish fluently, because I am on a mission for the Church. I know that my mission is helping me become the man that God intends for me to become, and will help me continue to become a better person. I can't wait to be able to look back and see the changes that will come to me in serving our Father in Heaven.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I have made some big mistakes in my young life, I have become my own worst enemy, and it has been hard to continue at times, but each time that I was about to give up, I was blessed with the chance to feel His love for me and grow my testimony. I know that He loves me and that my past sins are forgiven as long as I can forgive myself, but that is the hardest part. I know that I must forgive myself, and that is why I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints; I am trying to learn how to become like my Heavenly Father, and find true joy and happiness. In all religions that stem from ancient writings teach that the best way to find true joy is to give of one's self and serve others. It is for this reason that I am serving a mission; I want to serve others and bring them happiness in the gospel and let them know that they are loved by God. I know that the next two years will be the best two years of my life, as well as the hardest. These years will help me to become the man the God has intended for me to become. These are the reasons why I am a Mormon; I want to find true joy, learn to truly forgive, and enter into His presence again. The only what to do that is to learn to serve Him and keep His commandments.

How I live my faith

As I mentioned before, I lived in Europe, France and Switzerland. In living there it was hard to stay strong in the Church, but I was blessed in being called as a translator for the English speakers in my ward, as well as being a primary teacher for the four to seven year-olds. I was also the technician, as well; I was in charge of setting up the rebroadcasts and other transmissions we received. With all of these callings, I was busy a lot of the time, but I still found time to help the missionaries and my family around the house. I also did my best to be an example to my friends and acquaintances at my school, as well as my siblings and youth in my ward and stake. I have always done my best to do what was right, and now I am serving in the Texas San Antonio mission.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Modesty and chastity go hand in hand, this is because when a woman dresses modestly it is seen as a sign that she respects herself, and demands other to as well. When a woman doesn't respect herself, she won't dress as such, and this makes her seem more like an object. If men see a woman as an object, then they will not treat her with the respect she deserves as a Daughter of God, this will lead to problems with the law of chastity. Even in dating, a young man will let his hormones and feelings get the best of him, and when that happens, a young man will often be physically intimate, but if the young woman respects herself and dresses appropriately it will help them keep the law of chastity. It is important that parents teach their children in action, and word. The fathers should show respect to their wives, this will show their sons how to treat women, and show the daughters how they should be treated. The mothers should dress modestly and act appropriately with their husbands, and especially only show affection for their husbands and avoid spending time around other men, the same goes for the husband, especially when children are young, because children have very active imaginations. The most important thing is to show by example how to act with husbands, and the children should be taught that the kind of affection the parents share should be saved for marriage, never given before.
