Hi I'm Andy VanWagoner

Born and raised in Utah. I strive to make the world and the web better places. I'm a software engineer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love creating beautiful and easy to use web applications. I spend most of my workday in JavaScript both in the browser and in Node.js. My wife and kids are the motivation and inspiration of my life. The kids and I love to make up new (and usually silly) words to songs, and read Dr. Suess, Shel Silverstein, and Calvin and Hobbes. I play the guitar and piano well enough to say I can play, and poor enough to refuse any requests to do so.

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up, my parents and most of my extended family were members of the LDS church, and so I participated in the programs and meetings of the church as well. Though the people around me likely didn't know, I made my share of mistakes and was brought to the same crisis of conscience that everyone faces at one point or another, and I chose to repent. I continually chose to repent, to turn to God in spite of my wrongs and rely on the merits of His Son as I strive to improve and become more like Them. The church helps me and my family learn more about, and draw closer to our Savior.

How I live my faith

I strive to treat everyone with kindness. I'm sure I'm not always as pleasant as I'd like to be, but I want to know my neighbors and understand them, no matter their background or religion. I often learn valuable lessons that bring me closer to God from listening to friends of other faiths. As a record keeper, I try to remember everyone's name, and make sure everyone has someone to help and look after them.
