Hi I'm Derek Bailey

I ran Track and Cross country. I used to coach Cross Country. Now I'm a Missionary. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just graduated from high school, in high school I ran in Track mainly focusing on the 400m and my team's relays. I first started cross country in order to get in shape for track, and through the years I have found how much I enjoy distance running. I was the assitant coach for the cross country team at my high school this last summer. Now I am at the Missionary Training Center learning spanish and getting ready to go to the New York, New York North Mission

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church and we always went as a family together until my sister got into high school, then she and my dad stopped coming. I never had really even cared about the church so I thought I would stop going too, but my dad told me to keep going to keep my mom company. So that's why I went. But when I first started high school and went to Seminary, we were assigned to read the New Testiment. So I decided I'd try it, the first night I read I felt the spirit so strong telling me that it was true, eventhough I didn't understand a lot of it I kept reading and got more involved in church. Through the years I felt that same spirit testifying not only of the Book of Mormon, but of the great love that God has for me as well. After I accepted the gospel, I started to be much friendlier and tried to be a better example to those around me. I felt purpose in life that I never had before, I was actually happy, and maybe most surprisingly of all, I really started to care about other people. I have prayed, studied, struggled, repented, and been forgiven, and I'm still doing so now. I don't think I will ever in this life pull off being perfect in anyway, but through Jesus Christ and the restored gosple, I feel that I can try my best and one day be perfected through him.

How I live my faith

During my years of running it seemed as if the best coaches I had were the ones who specifically cared for me. So that is why I wanted to coach, sometimes it's really hard when my runners won't listen to me, but I've been trying really hard to connect to them as a friend and then hopefully I can show them how to succeed not only in running but in their lives. In my ward I am also in charge of the finances, so I stay after our classes to take came of the funds. The fact that the leaders in my area trust me so much as to handle all the money is very humbling. Most of my friends are members of this church as well so lately we have been going every other week down to the nearest temple, there we preform services for the church, and we really get to feel the spirit as well.
