Hi I'm Matthew Yim

I was born and raised in Hawaii. I am an advocate to education: learning, growing, and progressing. I am a convert. I am Mormon.

About Me

I love learning. I love being active: playing sports, hanging out, studying, etc. I believe that everyday we have the opportunity to make a difference. We must look back at the past to learn, look to the future with faith, and live in the present. I am an optimist. I've seen and lived in a different parts of the world that are considered "dangerous" and "third-world countries". I speak English and Spanish fluently and I am working on Mandarin Chinese. Life is different where ever you may go but it is a blessing and a gift. I believe that happiness is a choice that we make to follow the Lord and keep His commandments.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on April 9, 2011. This is the true Church of God, restored upon this Earth in these latter days. The gospel is simple; there is nothing that is complicated about it--it makes sense! "Line upon line, precept upon precept," the mysteries of God will be shown unto you as you read the plain and simple things written in the Bible as well as the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is just another testimony of Jesus Christ, just as it claims to be, written on the front of the cover. I am a convert to the Church because I have sincerely prayed for myself if these things were not true, and as a result, I found out the exact opposite. This gospel has given me a new life: a life filled with the pure knowledge of God--a life closer to Him as I read my scriptures and pray to Him daily. I know that God is our Heavenly Father and that Jesus Christ, His only Begotten Son, once walked the lowest part of this Earth, symbolically, to bring us back. This atonement is infinite and relieves us of our forefather's transgressions. This is the pure love of Christ--pure sacrifice, pure charity-- and I will follow His example.

How I live my faith

I've had multiple callings in Church which have given me the opportunity to teach others the gospel of Jesus Christ. From being a teacher in the Gospel Essentials/Principles class to being a teacher in the Gospel Doctrine (more advanced) class, I've had a decent amount of teaching opportunities and experiences. The greatest teaching opportunity that I've had in the church was to serve as a full-time missionary for two years in the countries of El Salvador and Belize. I can honestly say, I love teaching, especially the gospel. You learn more as a teacher than as a student. As a teacher, you witness light and knowledge, through the spirit of God, change people. I've learned so much from members and non-members alike who have shared their insights and knowledge and beliefs. I strive to follow my Savior every day. This is how i live my faith for faith without works is dead.

What is faith?

Matthew Yim
Faith is not simply attainable by just believing or hoping in something, "which are not seen, which are true". Faith is the action of belief and thus motivates people to act and have confidence in their actions. It can be defined more as a process than a single object. Faith can be likened to architecture. We must first find good soil and ground, which will not move in any circumstance, to lay our foundation upon-- the true word of God. Once we have faith in God, by definition, we must act. But as in architecture, the project being built (whether it be some sort of skyscraper or apartment building) is not done by just laying down the foundation. We must start building. Faith is the same way. We must build and strengthen our faith as a skyscraper or apartment, to house ourselves and work in, to reside and find comfort in when times get rough. As we build our faith complex, we will draw closer to God and become steadfast and immovable. We will be disciples of Christ. Faith is a process of endurance and progression. Faith is to trust Him and act accordingly, building up His kingdom here on Earth. Show more Show less
