Hi I'm Gary Leavitt

I grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and love to live among the prophets and apostles of the church. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I had a career with computers from 1969 to 2004. I started a company in 1970 to create software for financial institutions specifically - credit unions. I designed the software and marketed it across the United States and was very successful. My wife Karen and I have 5 children (4 boys and 1 girl) and 14 grandchildren. I am a health and wellness specialist and love to teach people the importance of being hydrated and drinking enough water everyday. My health is my wealth. I have discovered simple health principles over the last 6 years that I can teach others to produce live saving and live changing results. I am a High Priest in our ward and love to teach. I consider myself soft spoken, kind and considerate of other people. I serve in our ward as a home teacher and web master. I love being with our grandchildren and love to see them learn, grow and gain a testimony of the Book of Mormon and our Savior. I love music and spend a considerable amount of time each day listening to good music. I am a real fan of Mormon Channel.org and listen to it each day. (That's how I found out about creating a profile) I consider myself strong in the faith and my wife and I served for 18 months as part time missionaries at the Family History Library here in Salt Lake City, I served an LDS mission from 1961-63 in the Central British Mission in England. I was a great experience and I think about it almost everyday.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I grew up in a community (Salt Lake City, UT, USA) where the church is headquartered. That allowed my ample opportunity to live among other Mormons and really to learn and grow in the church through out my life. This has been a great blessings. I have studied the church and teachings of the prophets and leaders and have read a lot about other churches and truly believe that being LDS and participating in what the church has to offer is the best way to enjoy life and become personally fulfilled. I know that God lives and loves his children. My faith and practice of it brings peace, understanding, forgiveness and daily improvement. I live and practice my religion on a daily basis. It is a habit and leads me to a happy life style. I love to grow personally and spend a lot of time reading, listening and observing others good lives and that helps me become all that I can be and helps me reach my full potential. I have a long ways to go but I work on it daily. Life is challenging as it should be so I can stretch and grow into my best self. I struggle each day with personal weaknesses and have fears, doubts and worries that are greatly helped and balanced with the scriptures, messages of the leaders, other good teachers and authors of good books. I like to learn and have a desire to really leave a legacy for my posterity and to help others reach their potential also. I know God lives and I express my gratitude each day for the blessings I receive and the answers to prayers that are continuous. I have seen so many answers to my prayers for myself and others in ways that only the Lord and his wisdom can provide. I love my Heavenly Father and his Son Jesus Christ and feel so privileged to have this understanding. I plan to serve with my wife in the next little while here as full time missionaries. We want to serve a mission together and my wife will be a great companion. I'm looking forward to it.

How I live my faith

My faith is the basis of my daily living and life style. I try to emulate Christ like attributes and love to serve others. My understanding of my faith as a Mormon started when I was 12 and attended early morning seminary before going to middle school. This seminary class taught me about church history starting with Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon which I really didn't know much about up to that point. My parents were honest, kind and loving but didn't participate in church activities. With the help of friends and ward leaders I found my own way in the church. I attended LDS seminary for 6 years (what a blessing) and was the student body Seminary President in my last year of high school (12th grade). I am a husband, father, grandfather and love to serve in these roles and responsibilities. I attend church each Sunday and love the meetings and consider what I learn each week invaluable in helping me stay strong in the church. I serve as a home teacher in our ward and have visited one family for over 30 years and I love this family. I read or listen to the scriptures each day. I love listening to the Mormon Channel live stream each day and have learned so much about the church. I listen on my smart phone and also watch the videos on the phone or on my flat screen TV using the Roku box. This technology allows me to re-watch conference any time I like and provides so much opportunity to really absorb the messages of conference. With this mobile technology on my smart phone I can listen to scriptures or conference while I'm doing routine things around the home or when I go on walks I can listen to talks and use the time for physical health and spiritual / intellectual benefit. What a great world we live in now and I am excited to learn about the growth of the church and the impact it's making on the world. My membership in the LDS church means everything to me and provides and opportunity to live with my family forever.
