Hi I'm Heidi

I'm a Navy wife, mother, science geek, music lover, and athlete. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

At this stage of life, most of my activities revolve around the care of my family (5 children and hubby), and making our home a haven for them. To keep my sanity with my busy life, I garden, train for triathlons and play the piano. These three things are not only great ways for me to unwind, but also a cherished time when I can meditate, and appreciate the many blessings my Heavenly Father has given me. I have always had an intense love for learning, which has evolved into an even greater love for teaching. I've been a science teacher, swimming/diving instructor, tennis and swimming coach, piano and voice teacher, and have had many opportunities to teach at church as well.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the things I have studied and pondered within the Church resonate as truth to me. I know that the teachings of the church are in line with true Christlike living and I know the Book of Mormon is scripture. I love its text and continue to draw closer to my Savior through its study. I also know that I have a Heavenly Father who loves each of us enough that He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and die for us. I love being a Mormon because of the incredible familial bond I feel within my ward family, for the many examples of Christlike Charity that I witness often and for the many opportunities I have to serve others both inside and outside of my Church community.

How I live my faith

My desire as a member of the church is to be an instrument in God's hands, bringing about his purposes. I try to interweave this desire into the many things I do each day. Some days I do better than others. In order to be an instrument in God's hands I feel two things are necessary in my life: The first is to improve my talents so that I may bless others with them. I am currently the music coordinator, organist and choir director at church. I love being able to facilitate worship through music. It is such a powerful medium and can so quickly invite the spirit. Music is also an incredible way to bear testimony, and sing praises to my Savior. The second, and more important thing is to live a life filled with the Holy Ghost, so that I may be receptive to the needs of others. This is definitely the more challenging of the two. It requires repentance, humility, charity, application of the scriptures, and constant prayer. I love the scripture in 3 Nephi 20:1 "... And he commanded them that they should not cease to pray in their hearts." I love that I can have an open, ceaseless dialogue with my Heavenly Father. My relationships with Him and His Son are so very precious to me.
