Hi I'm Carol L. Moffitt

I am a wife, mother and grandmother. I like to teach and help children learn. I am a Mormon.

About Me

My two older twin brothers and I grew up in Phoenix Arizona, children of William E. and Gwen Wilson Pendergrass. Learning was valued, although sometimes I just wanted my dad to help me solve a math problem - not write a textbook about it! I attended Arizona State University and Tempe Arizona, majoring in elementary education with a Spanish minor. I taught 2nd and 3rd grades in Phoenix and later, Special Education in Idaho. Growing up, church affiliation or religious instruction wasn't a priority, although my friends of various faiths and I often discussed religion and what we believed. LDS friends invited me to meet with the missioaries and join the LDS sorority, and friendshipped me into the gospel. One of my brothers, who earlier had joined the church, baptized me. School and church, including serving as secretary in Relief Society, kept me busy, but allowed enough time to meet and date Mr. Right. Lou Moffitt and I were married July 26, 1969, in the Mesa Arizona Temple. Lou and I chose a temple wedding so our family could be united for eternity, even though my parents, as non-members, could not attend. Happily, my parents later joined the church, uniting our family. We have 4 children, although our son is deceased. We are blessed to enjoy 7 grandchildren, who we wish lived closer to us. Living in small branches and "twigs" as well as large wards, I have served as a teacher and in leadership roles in Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints because I choose to be. Having agency, or the right and ability to make choices is truly God-given. Through prayer, I received a testimony or witness, that Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world, did appear to Joseph Smith. I also received confirmation that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon, through heavenly help and restored the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth. Just as Joseph Smith was a prophet, Thomas S. Monson, is today Jesus Christ's prophet to the world.

How I live my faith

When I joined the church, I understood that my choices about everything would affect me in this life and in the eternities. As a child, I was taught the Golden Rule and the Ten Commandments, so accepting and following gospel teachings was not difficult. I try to govern my life by behaving as Jesus Christ did: loving and serving others, being honest, and obey Heavenly Father's commandments.
