Hi I'm Royce

I'm a Utah native. I'm attending the University of Utah studying City and Metropolitan Planning and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a college student studying Urban Planning. I teach guitar at a studio and really love playing the guitar and have an overall love for music. I enjoy the outdoors, discovering new music, cooking, spending time with my wife and our puppy as well as family and friends, and have recently discovered the joys of cycling and bike commuting. I would consider myself and avid cyclist and am always looking for a creative way to make each ride better. I love jazz music and am amazed at how much beautiful and intriguing music there is out there. I enjoy analyzing music and trying to discover what makes it tick and why certain musical passages affect me the way they do. My wife and I do not have any children yet but are looking forward to the opportunity to have a family of our own. At present, our dog gets a little spoiled being our only child. Family is extremely important to me and I love knowing that I can be with my family forever through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the great many experiences I have had in my life that confirm to me that this where God wants me to be. I grew up a member of the church and learned and grew in it but it wasn't until I was in my late teens that I began to develop a conviction of my own that the way I was living was pleasing to God. I remember reading the Book of Mormon at that time and when I had finished, I prayed to know if the things I had read really happened. I received an overwhelming feeling of peace and joy that brought me to tears. I could feel the voice of the Lord confirming to me that yes, the Book of Mormon and all it contained was true. This was a very important moment in my life because I knew that if the Book of Mormon was true, that meant that Jesus Christ was the Savior of mankind because the Book of Mormon expressed that in no uncertain terms. Also, I knew that Joseph Smith was a prophet of Jesus Christ and that he saw both Jesus and our Heavenly Father in Palmyra, New York in 1820. All of this together meant that I knew what sort of a life that God wanted me to live. Knowing that, I served my mission, and was married for time and all eternity in the temple to my wonderful wife. I also know that if I am obedient to God's commands, I will be prepared to live with Him in His kingdom with my wife and family for all eternity. All this grew out of my desire to know if the Book of Mormon was true. Since that time, my conviction of the truths I have learned has grown tremendously and I can no sooner deny the hand in front of my face than I can the truth of this gospel. To do that would be to lie to myself and to God. This work is true and I will stand by it forever.

How I live my faith

I currently attend a small branch in Farmington, Utah with my wife. It is a wonderful group of people. We have been here about a year now and have felt welcome and included from the first day. Though the congregation is small, the spirit that attends the meetings is wonderful. Serving in the church is very important to me. I have felt such blessings church service in my life that I have come to love it. From serving a full-time proselyting mission in Tucson, Arizona for two years to simply vacuuming the church halls, I have loved the opportunities I have had to help in the Lord's work. Attending the temple is also very important to me. I feel such peace, comfort and protection when I go to the temple and I love the opportunity to feel so close to God there.
