Hi I'm Shan

Born in Germany, raised in TX, now in OK. Family Manager who blogs about life on Family Brings Joy. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

It took me 21 years to find The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 20 years later my life is full of blessings. I love to create. Whether it be through photography, scrap booking, crafting with my kids, gardening, do it yourself projects or writing a post on my blog...I love it all. My parents taught me to love everyone and raised me with good values. Every time I work on my family history I am in awe of the legacy they left for me.

Why I am a Mormon

There are many reasons why I joined this beautiful church. However, when it comes right down to it, I only have to say one thing. By His Spirit, God revealed to me in prayer that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was His church on earth today. Over the years I have learned to listen to that still small voice; not only listen, but obey. Better yet, there is a special feeling almost a warmth in my heart that comes when concepts of truth from Deity are given to me. It was after a very tumultuous time in my life that I knelt down one evening and poured out my heart to my Maker. I spent a few years not in church and straying far from the beliefs that were inherently instilled in me. That prayer was the LONGEST prayer I have ever prayed. I spoke to God about the kind of church I wanted to go to. I gave him specifics like, "I want to feel your Spirit when I go to church. I don't want it to be about the church wanting my tithing money. I want to feel as though the members truly care about me. I want the members to practice what they preach. I want it to have a good Singles program where guys treat me like a queen and open the doors for me and pay for our dates. I don't want them to do drugs or drink alcohol." There were many other words spoken in that prayer and all were fulfilled when the missionaries knocked on my door the very next morning. I was blown away how God brought His Church to me. I was taught intensively for 2 weeks about the doctrine of the church. Many times I rejoiced as I found answers to questions I've had my whole life. God did have a plan so I could return and live with Him and my Savior Jesus Christ again. His plan is loving and doable. God wants everyone to have the opportunity to come back to him after this life. Before I conclude, I want to point out how our church is run. This was major for me. Everyone who serves in our church, including the Bishop, is not paid. Members & leaders volunteer their time.

How I live my faith

When I was introduced, one of the many things I loved about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was witnessing the way it's members lived their faith on a daily basis. I had prayed for a church where people practiced what they preached. I prayed for a church that had a strong singles program because I was single at the time. I wanted the men to be spiritual and have knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I witnessed first hand, young men my age at 21 reading the scriptures every day, bringing up gospel topics in conversation, singing hymns with pride. Not only that, these young men treated me with respect. I live my faith by participating in the community. I have volunteered at my children's schools. I have served in our church in many different capacities over my 20 years. More importantly, I live my faith by diligently trying to keep God's commandments every day. Almost every single day I begin my day in prayer and by studying the scriptures.

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

God is our Heavenly Father. We are created after his image, meaning we are His offspring. Therefore, God has a body. He sent his Son to earth, who also has a body. Both God and Jesus have separate perfected and immortal bodies. The Holy Ghost is a Spirit who works in conjunction with Heavenly Father and Jesus. We can feel a manifestation of the Holy Ghost on behalf of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ while we are on earth. Heavenly Father is a loving God and wants all of His children to return and live with Him. Show more Show less
