Hi I'm April Jensen

For 9 years, I've lead a weekly Mom & kid hiking group in UT. My own six kids help lead the hikes. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up at a fishing lodge in Quebec, Canada (Kipawa River Lodge) every summer and went to school every winter in Utah, USA. I loved being part of the small congregations of LDS I went to church with in Canada. They were loving people who lived the teachings of Jesus Christ. Our family hosted many church gatherings at our lodge for the LDS faith and good friends of many other faiths as well. Our lodge was also a gathering place for outdoor enthusiasts the world over. Kayaking, fishing, skiing, rappelling & canoeing were a few of the activities our family offered the guests of our lodge. During the winter months, our family resided in Utah where we were very involved in serving our community through our LDS church activity. In Utah, my 4 sisters & I also graduated from University and were able to participate in all the wholesome recreational activities that the Mormon Church and the Utah outdoors have to offer. My parents not only introduced us to the blessing of being a part of this Christ centered community, but also to the joys of skiing, hiking, hunting, music, & biking. I always felt & still feel that being part of an LDS family is the very most wonderful thing in life. I had a very delightful upbringing which I now endeavor to pass on to my own young family.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I want to follow the Savior, Jesus Christ. His Church teaches us how to do that. It teaches us how to live a life of love and service and it encourages us to serve in ways that we may not have ever thought we could. Church callings give me opportunities to study the scriptures in more detail, they give me chances to meet and serve people that I would not otherwise ever get to know. They help me to feel the love that the Savior has for this world and to be a tiny part of helping that love to be felt by those who haven't before. I love how Christ's Church works. I love being a member of it.

How I live my faith

I love getting to know the people I live among. Being LDS naturally trained me to look out for and care for my neighbors. As a child, I saw my Mom and Dad caring for those they home & visit taught. They extended that Christlike service to the people we associated with at our Lodge during the summer in Quebec. It became natural for us to always try to help others be included and welcome. Now, I love any chance to have neighbors over for dinner, to visit with them on the front porch, to take meals over to those who have been sick or had surgeries. I just want to and our kids love to help out with that & fill me in on how folks around us are doing. We especially love it when we find out someone needs something that we haven't had a chance to get to know yet. In our current area, my husband and I both serve in our LDS ward as home & visiting teachers. We try to know these families well & serve them in every way they might need. It is a wonderful church assignment. I have also been asked to help our area with emergency preparedness. I help organize preparedness fairs for our community, and I keep our area updated on community preparedness events, materials & supplies that they might want to participate in. This calling has been a great learning experience for me as have all the callings I've been given in the LDS church. I believe Christ is pleased with what I've done and I know that He organized this church so that everyone who wanted to could have these opportunities for growth and service to mankind. I'm so glad to be a part of His Church.

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

God gave us this commandment in Old Testament times. All His commandments are given to bless us. My husband and I chose to follow this commandment and our entire family has been blessed in all the ways promised by the prophet of the Bible, Malachi. Tithing is one of the ways I know that God keeps His promises to those who put His laws to the test. Show more Show less
