Hi I'm Brooke

I grew up in Maryland and Brussels. I like to volunteer in schools, read, and make others happy. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Maryland. When I was 4 years old, my dad got an opportunity to work in Brussels, Belgium for 5 years. I started Kindergarten at a French speaking school. This opportunity was incredible for our family. I was able to travel all over Europe as a child and see some incredible things. I grew to love other cultures, their traditional costumes, their architecture, their customs. When we moved back to Maryland when I was 9, I started taking ballet lessons. I loved dancing and performing. I loved the costumes, the make-up, the music. When I went to college I decided to major in dance. Most of my experience was in ballet, although I had taken some other classes. A whole new world was opened up to me at the college level. I discovered my love for other dance genres, especially folk dance. Folk dance merged my love of dance with my interest in other cultures. I loved the costumes, the reasons behind the style of dance, and the steps themselves. After college, I stopped dancing on a regular basis, but my love of dance didn't end. With the start of my own family and my children going to school, I started volunteering at my children's elementary school. I found that I loved working with children. One year I was even able to start an after school dancing and singing class where we performed at school assemblies and the talent show. I also love to read fiction books. Lately I have become an avid reader. That is my current life; family, volunteering, reading.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I learned that my Heavenly Father lives and loves me from the time I was born. I have attended church meetings all my life. When I was graduating from High School, I decided to pray more fervently and reverently. This changed my life. I developed a better relationship with my Heavenly Father. When I went to college and was on my own, I had to decide how I wanted to live my life. Through prayer and study, I knew the gospel of Jesus Christ was found in the Mormon church. Through several experiences I have had, I know that Jesus Christ loves me and that he sacrificed his life for me and took upon himself my sins. I have felt His love as I have struggled at times and He has reassured me that He knows how I am feeling. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior.

How I live my faith

I know that each person is a child of God. In an effort to help others feel God's love, I like to volunteer in the schools. There are many children who do not feel love at home or may not get the encouragement that they need or desire. I feel like I can be a positive force in their lives by showing them love and telling them how important they are. I always try to share a smile with the people I interact with. At church I work mostly with children ages 3-11. There are struggles with working with children of such differing ages, but I find that as I see them as children of God, that I am able to handle those struggles better. Again, I can show them how much God loves them by showing my love for them.
