Hi I'm Carly Raitt

I live in Hawaii as a full-time student and part-time tour guide, I love Disney movies, I'm 23 years old and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. I joined the church when I was 18 years old as a Freshman in college. I recently returned home from serving a full-time mission in Sydney, Australia speaking Mandarin Chinese for 18 months. I have an associates degree in University Studies and am currently majoring in International Cultural Studies at Brigham Young University-Hawaii. I love to play sports, I have played competitive softball since I was 12 years old. I enjoy outdoor activities such as snow skiing, boating, hiking, swimming etc. I'm a middle child of three. I love to live in new places and meet new people!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised with an understanding that I should avoid Mormons, I never took much interest in learning about the church in my youth though many of my friends were members of the church. My older brother was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma when I was a Junior in high school, he was given a 10 percent chance of survival. Until this point, my family didn't have much of a religious background except for the occasional attendence on Easter or Christmas. As time went on and this became a real trial for my family, to watch my brother suffer through multiple chemotherapy treatments and surgerys, I could feel I was missing something in my life. I needed to have some sort of hope or comfort and I knew I could find that through Jesus Christ. As a freshman now in college I agreed to meet with the missionaries once a week, I had been taught many times before but this time was different, I actually had some desire to know if their message was true. I would read from the Book of Mormon when I needed comfort, I would attend Sacrament meeting with my Mom and I could instantly feel that these were good people, I had a good feeling when I attended Church, Why would God give me a good peaceful feeling if this was bad? I still was not sure about many things, if Joseph Smith was a prophet, if everything the missionaries were teaching were true. So one night after a lesson with the missionaries I felt an urge to pray. As a knelt down I began to cry, a feeling came over me and I knew without a doubt I needed to be baptized. I knew If I were baptized and made the Gospel a permanent part of my life I would have eternal happiness and no matter what trials came my way everything would be okay. I was nervous to tell my Dad, he is not a fan of the church, but over time he has come around and respects my decision. My brother passed away June 2, 2011. Just a little over a year after my baptism, I don't know how I would have ever gotten through it without Jesus Christ and the Gospel in my life.

How I live my faith

I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Living its teachings truly is the only way to real happiness in this life. I love to teach the Gospel which is why I chose to serve a full-time mission. I enjoy attending church every Sunday and participating in church activities during the week. I do my best to be a living example of Christ each day to those around me.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Carly Raitt
Our purpose as missionaries is to "Invite others to come unto Christ". We believe we have the most important message to share that comes from our heavenly father. It would be selfish not to share and invite others to partake of the same happiness that we have through the Gospel. I know how much the Gospel has helped me in my life and I wish for everyone else to have the same knowlege and blessings that come from the Gospel. We are willing to leave our families, our friends, education etc. All so that others can hear our message and come unto christ. We know this church is true, it is Christ's Church. Show more Show less
