Hi I'm Laurel Martin

I grew up in small town Texas, I'm a student, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I currently attend Brigham Young University in Provo, UT. I am studying Human Development, and I love getting the chance to study about how to help the most important thing on the earth- people! If I get the chance, I love playing volleyball, tennis, and the piano. I mostly enjoy quality time with my family, friends, and my cats! I am the first girl in my family to serve a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and spent that time in the beautiful Oakland/San Francisco area of California.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents moved to Texas after they were married, and there they met some Mormon co-workers and friends. These friends introduced them to the church, and they talked to the missionaries and after praying about the truthfulness of what they had been learning, they chose to be baptized. They also have chosen to stay active in the church, so most of my siblings and I were raised with it. However, while I feel blessed to have been born in the Church, I have chosen personally to keep attending church by my own will. I prayed about the Book of Mormon when I was 14, and I got my answer of its truth for myself through the Spirit/Holy Ghost. I continue to build my faith and receive direction in my life by being obedient to God's commandments. I love this gospel soooo much and I feel such light fill me when I am doing what's right. I know I have a loving Heavenly Father and savior Jesus Christ, and that gives me purpose.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by striving to become like Jesus Christ. While I love attending church and the temple, I find it important to also make sure I am being true to who I am in my everyday life. I do this by praying and studying the scriptures everyday to stay close to God and learn of Him, keeping His commandments, and serving others. I particularly love serving the youth of the church. For example, I worked as an Especially For Youth (a church camp) counselor for three summers, and I also have taught the 12/13 year old Sunday School class at church. I also have worked with helping to lead the group of women in my student congregation known as Relief Society. I love any chance I get to teach or share with others what I believe.
