Hi I'm John Lahtinen

I'm a student, musician, rock climber. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I first started rock climbing when i was really little, but about a year ago I started to get really into it. I enjoy both indoor and outdoor climbing. My favorite part about rock climbing is going outdoor on a really big wall, and coming up to a really hard part. I like being afraid of falling and not knowing whether or not i can do it, and then finding strength indside of myself and overcoming the obstacle set in front of me.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of the church, but as most do, I couldn't rely on my parents to know what was right. I had to learn for myself what the truth was. So, for a few years, I made some mistakes and took for granted the blessings that had been put into my life. I knelt in prayer and asked my father in heaven if this church was his church, if it was true. I can say without waiver that this is christ's true church restored to this earth.

How I live my faith

One of the things that I try to do in my life is act as much like Christ as I possibly can. Whether that be in school, sports, or any other activity I am involved in, I always try to treat people as Christ would treat them, with love and compassion. That is why I have made the decision to serve a mission. Just like the apostles in the bible, I will be going out to serve my father in heaven by spreading his word and helping people feel the peace a love I have felt in my life from having the gospel.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

John Lahtinen
In short, no, all mormons are not required to serve a mission. Personally, I chose to serve a mission because I could not bear to withhold this knowledge that has brought my family and me so much happiness and I have encouraged many of my friends to do the same. But, we do not reject those that choose not to serve. Christ lovingly accepts all into his fold and as followers of him, we have the duty to do the same. Show more Show less
