Hi I'm Sterling

I grew up in Arizona. I speak Arabic. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am recently married. While I was single, lived for long periods of time in Europe and the Middle East. I am fluent in Spanish, French, Italian and Arabic. I am currently a part-time researcher at a strategic studies center and a full-time PhD student. I enjoy riding my bike, listening to anything by Bob Dylan and collecting international pop music. I dream of owning a house with a big yard and a garden.

Why I am a Mormon

I don't know if I would be a Mormon had it not been for the faith of my parents and grandparents. They taught me the gospel of Jesus Christ since I was born. But it wasn't until I started living on my own in Europe that I had to really strengthen my own faith in the gospel and in a modern prophet. While in Europe and the Middle East I found it was through exercising principles of the gospel that I would know that they were true, rather than trying to rationalize them. These principles have guided me and have been a blessing in my life. When I live them, I feel inspired and guided from heaven, which gives me confidence in my decisions.

How I live my faith

I am a firm believer in the saying "actions speak louder than words." I would rather share my faith by serving others than by telling them about my faith. My church responsibility is in our local Sunday School program, where I oversee a class of about a dozen new coverts to our ward. I make it a point that our class participants sit in a circle so that we all learn from each other's experiences and perspectives, rather than just from the teacher.
