Hi I'm Parker

I was born and raised in Tennesse, but now I go to the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!). I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I go to school at the University of Alabama where I am double majoring in Business and German. I still don't have a clue what I wanna do after college, but I would love to have a job where I could speak German. I'm a huge fan of sports in general and the atmosphere that you can feel watching sports. My favorite sports to watch are football and hockey. I'm a fan of the Crimson Tide (obviously) and the Tennessee Titans (although I've stopped watching pro football as much recently). I also love the Nashville Predators hockey team. I used to play football when I was younger, but I hurt my back so I couldn't keep up with everyone anymore. I do still like to play pretty much any sport with friends. I play basketball whenever I get the chance to although I can't hit a jump shot to save my life. My favorite sport to play recreationally is Racquetball. I love a large variety of music from Guns N' Roses to Foo Fighters or The Killers to Relient K. The only types of music that I'm not a huge fan of are rap and country. I used to be a huge video game junkie in high school, but I don't have as much time anymore. I'm not saying that I don't play at all because I absolutely do if I have time, I'm just not constantly on them all day. That's me in a nutshell. I'm just another typical college kid trying to survive on my own.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church and my parents were great examples to me growing up. Even with their examples, I didn't have any belief in the church throughout most of my high school years. I went to church and different church activities just because it was expected of me. I spent those four years being very angry. I would get mad at everything, but mostly I was mad at God for making life harder than I wanted it to be. My anger in addition to many other things just made me feel completely alone in the world. It wasn't until last year (my freshman year at Alabama) that I really got sick of feeling angry and alone all the time. After the worst couple of months in my life, I felt so alone that I plead with God to help me to get through this. This was the first time in my life that I had actually made an effort to pray. A few days later, two of the missionaries from our congregation knocked on my door, and we ended up talking for about an hour. I talked with them about how alone I felt, and one of the missionaries told me that I should pray to know that God is there and that He cares about me. I did what he asked me to that night, and the next day was the best day that I had had in months. The best way to describe how I felt is at peace. I still had all of my problems, but it felt like a load had been taken off my shoulders. Since then I have tried to turn my life around and fix a lot of the problems in my life. And all in all, I'm just trying to be a better person. If I didn't have this church, then I don't know where my life would be right now, but I'm almost positive that I would be worse off.

How I live my faith

Right now I'm acting as one of the YSA (Young Single Adults) representatives in the Northport and Tuscaloosa area. That means that I am here to help any of the college aged members in our area by organizing activities and by making sure that everyone is looked after. One of the most important things that I have learned from my church is the importance of serving others. I absolutely love going out and serving others, and I try to take advantage of any opportunity to serve that I can.
