Hi I'm Chad

I love soccer, Japan and cheese. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hey! I'm Chad Hilyard. I'm a student at Brigham Young University and I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I really like helping people, math, science (especially biology), and sports, but I'm pretty sure there isn't a job out there that includes all 4 of those subjects. I'm thinking about maybe becoming some sort of doctor, a sports scientist or something similar, or an engineer. So a few activities I enjoy doing are 1) Sports. I love playing any sport, as long as it is outside and involves moving, I probably like it. I particularly like soccer, running, mountain biking and wakeboarding. I eventually want to try Brazilian Jujitsu, but I don't know when that will be. I'm also a very big movie watcher. I LOVE watching movies with family, friends, or on a date, it's the best! A few of my favorites include The Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Star Trek, Inception, and The Sandlot (classic!). Right now I am living in Japan as a missionary for the church in the Japan Nagoya Mission. I love Japanese people, the culture, the language...I just love Japan! I'm grateful for the opportunity I have to share this church's wonderful message with the people of Japan. This experience has changed my life and is one of the greatest blessings in my life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family who were already members, so I grew up with the gospel in my life. Even though I grew up with the church, I didn't always believed it to be true. There were times in my life when I felt like I didn't have my own personal testimony or faith. I only attended church because my parents wanted me to, not because I had the desire to go. As the end of my senior year in high school came to a close, all my friends were talking about how they were going to start preparing to serve a mission. Because of my friend's examples, it caused me to have a desire to know if this church really was true or not. After that, I started reading the Book of Mormon, praying, and making changes in my life, hoping that I would receive an answer. And I did. I came to know that the Book of Mormon is true, that Joseph Smith really was a prophet of God and that God does hear each and every single prayer we give up to Him. I am so thankful for all of my friends and their examples, and also for my parents diligence in encouraging me to continue to go to church. And because of that, I have the opportunity to share the things I know to be true in Japan for 2 years!

How I live my faith

I live my faith by using what my Heavenly Father has given me in my life. For example, He has given me prayer, the scriptures and my family. I know that through prayer God listens and answers any prayer because I have turned to Him countless times in prayer and have received answer each time. The scriptures are also a very influencial blessing in my life. They help me to understand the gospel of Jesus Christ and how I can apply it's teachings in my life. My family..well they are just AMAZING! They do nothing but bring happiness and joy into my life. By using the many different tools or blessing that my Heavenly Father has given, I've received so much help and guidance in my life. As a missionary, i have the opportunity to share this same gospel and my same happiness with other and it's been amazing seeing the affect it has on the people I teach.
