Hi I'm Melissa

I live in Southern California. I'm a college student and a bookworm. I'm a Mormon and I love it!

About Me

Hi, I'm Melissa and I am a college student. I was born and raised in Orange County, California, where I still reside and go to school. I enjoy sports; I played softball for 12 years until the end of high school. I am a poor golfer but am working towards improvement and I enjoy trying new sports, they bring out my competitive side. I am an avid reader and greatly enjoy classic literature. I love baking, especially when I can share a freshly baked sweet with a friend, or make a new friend in the process. I love smiles and am rarely without one on my face and there is always one in my heart.

Why I am a Mormon

I have Mormon ancestry, but did not grow up in a devout household. My parents became inactive when I was a child, and stopped regularly attending church before I was old enough to be baptized. This limited my church attendance to the summers, when I would stay with my grandparents in Southern Utah. My extended vacations with my grandparents were such a blessing, I can still remember my joy when they bought me my own set of scriptures with my name printed on them when I was about 11 years old. I had a fledgling testimony of the Jesus Christ and his church, but 6 weeks out of each year were not enough to nourish my desire to attend church and learn more. I wasn't sure when my home ward met and was too scared to attend and sit by myself. Then in 8th grade, one of my school friends, noticed my name on the roll for Sunday School in our home ward. She had recently moved into the ward, and when she saw my name on the roll she recognized it from our English class. The very next Tuesday, all the Young Women from my ward stopped by my home and invited me to their next mutual. I accepted the invitation, knowing that I had the loving assistance of the Young Women and Leaders to be my friends and support, and proceeded to attend mutual and Sundays. Finally, after a few months I was able to be baptized. From my childhood I have had a testimony in our Heavenly Father and savior, Jesus Christ. I know that Jesus Christ is my savior, and from the teachings of the Holy Spirit, that this is his true church. The gospel has brought happiness and joy into my life.

How I live my faith

I love having the opportunities to serve others. In addition to my college classes, I also attend classes at the LDS Institute of Religion, where I always find there is more to learn about Christ and Gospel principles. I continually strive to uphold gospel standards, so I can be closer to Christ and be an example of the joy Christ's Gospel can bring into a person's life.
